The people willing to pay the asked price of $2500 thought it was a fair price....
So what you are saying is you see it as ok to beat up and steal from this guy who has every right to attempt to make money? At no point is that ok. Nobody has to pay his price. Perhaps if you saw people paying 2500 you could come and sell some of yours for "a fair price." When too many people bring generators they must sell for 600 to break even and the market is saturated the seller now could lose money or seller can keep his generators. What does the customer care?
People can cringe when as pay 2500 since they are the only generators around, and they can remember the guy who stiffed them in a time of need. What goes around comes around. Beyond that, someone who looks at it for the next one may think "might as well not even bother. If you ask too much you will be tarred and feathered. Let them come get their own generators."
Capitalism is a #####, but it is a system that DOES work.

Bring em down.. charge a fair mark up.
Please define price gouging for me. It seems you don't believe it exists.
If I find you in a field naked with a severed artery is it ok to charge you $5000 for my belt so you can stop the bleeding. Is it ok for me to chalk it up to supply and demand... I have the only belt in the immediate area and you have a demand. When does morality enter the picture. Does it even exist in your world?
A fair price is a price the buyer and the seller agree upon. The buyer can buy from any seller he chooses. If the demand is high enough more sellers will enter the market, driving the price down. The guy selling for 2500 is just the first to market. I fail to see where beating up and stealing his inventory is ever an acceptable outcome. And you want to make a discussion about MY morals??? Take a look in the mirror!
The empty field scenerio is OBVIOUSLY an overstated or exaggerated example to make a point. I'M NOT TRYING TO EQUATE LACK OF ELECTRICITY AND BLEEDING OUT.
Lets go back to that field, if two men came along and beat the crap out of me and gave you my belt would you think this is wrong????
Taking advantage of people after a disaster is wrong. If it cost money to get it there fast the price should reflect that, If there's no loads going out then the price can reflect that, If hardships are endured to provide the service the price should reflect that.
ALL WITHIN REASON!!!
There is a line which can be crossed, that's were morality lies.
Guess I will take down her shutters instead and have a vist.
Glad to hear yours are lookin out for each other.
I guess we're just going around and around.
If he has 10 generators he needs to sell at 600 each to break even he has to sell 3 at 2500 to be in the black and up +1500.
Should the hydro click back on after only 1 sale he is now in the hole, the generators quickly lose their premium value. That is his risk. I guess he should be charging a "fair price" and when he doesn't charge what you think is a fair price just go ahead punch him out and take what's right fully yours. How dare someone try to make a profit. It's not like this is an example of someone cheating people out of money. It's up front, here it is this is the price you can take it or leave it. Is it a scum bag move? Sort of. Is it legal? Completely. Remember any business can refuse to do business with any customer. So maybe everyone refuses to sell him gasoline or food for his way back wherever he came from. Or maybe the guy who bought a generator says I have gasoline. For you it is $250 per gallon. Again...what goes around comes around
Im Canadian man of course I have morals...lol
But I am also a capitalist and I believe in the law (generally speaking)
I also believe in free will, free speech, for everyone
People can say or do whatever they want (legally) and other people are also allowed to say/think "you're a real pos" etc. The bottom line is nobody has to buy his product for any price, also anyone else can become that guys competition and the guy will have to lower his prices and even if he does the buyers will remember "that other guy f'ed us in a time of need-i will never buy from him again"
Those are my morals
2. I believe in a free market economy.
3. I believe there is a time and place for everything.
4. I believe when people are really suffering is NOT the time to concentrate on maximizing profits.
5. I believe when people are really suffering is the time to be human.
