Does anyone remember when this Flying J was an All American? It was always a pleasure to stop here and the Pilot in Duncanon. The day of the Mom & Pop and independent truck stops is almost gone but at least their memories will live forever.
The big corporations like Pilot buy them up, close the sit down restaurants for fast food just to save a buck. The personalities that these independent truck stops portrayed to us drivers was priceless. If you were able to stop at them often enough they knew your name.
Waitresses, fuel jockies, cashiers and porters were all friendly and smiling. They appreciated you and your business. Fueled your truck, cleaned your windows, free parking, sometime free coffee and yes free showers at some for fueling.
I retired from driving in 2011 after 42 years and over 3 million miles and miss those days. I still stop at every Mom & Pop truck stop I can with my wife when we travel in the 5th wheel. I hope every driver stays safe and prosperous in these tough times.

I live about 10 miles from the one in Duncannon. I vaguely remember it as a 76 truck stop, then as All American. That was when I was in high school yet. I remember the food was pretty decent when it was the All American. Used to go there once in a while for burgers.
Then Peelot bought it, remodeled it, put in a Subway. And repaved the pothole filled parking lot. I stop occasionally when I'm passing by if I need a drink, but most times I just go to Sheetz just up the road.
Frystown? I won't even stop there. Although the Huddle House does have a good breakfast when you're hungry.
The one that really irritates me is the little stop up in Ravine at exit 104 on 81. That place is a real dump nowadays. And I go by there on a daily basis. Only stop if im really desperate for a bathroom break... -

The All American on I-80 was Milton PA. Then it was Petro several years. It was still good then. Now it's a dump some one runs it and they sell Flying J fuel but it a real dump last time I was their. That used to be a top truck stop in eastern PA.

Especially with the new Rutter's across the road, and the other one in Port Royal. The food is better. -

Here's another truck stop lost to history. This truck stop was the Pure Truck Stop, then Union 76, an independent fuel stop and finally gone for a shopping center. It was in Bartonsville, Pa just west of Delaware Water Gap toll bridge on I-80.
