I don't have children, and even I thought that part of it was awful.

They aren't an outfit I'd recommend, but if you're happy there, then God bless.

    Best of luck.

I'm totally screwed if that Saturday after-work nap is less than 3 hours. And if I do get 3, I'm pretty exhausted by bedtime. If I wasn't able to pull it off reasonably well I'd never do linehaul. Some drivers keep their night schedule on the weekends, which seems miserable to me. If I had to do that, I'd quit--no matter how good the money is.

I'm at a barn with enough seniority that I can do daylight linehaul or work nights. Way more choices for nights - and more miles. I go back and forth between daylight and nights. Daylight is always better on my body, better quality time with the family.

I've tried all sorts of ways to manage nights. I don't know how some drivers can just stay up the whole day after their last night of work. I've found that I need to take a long nap, at least 3 hours. Even then, I'm not 'right' till Sunday. Most of our night runs are M-F.

If I was single, I'd stay on my night schedule on my weekends. I don't have problems during the work week, but my weekends are rough.

Pay is outstanding. We have runs that are short enough that you don't even need to take a 30. We have long runs that are 12 hours but pay 100k. Most of our drivers average 80k a year. I'm on a run that's 90k right now, and the daylight run I usually take is just about 80k.

Linehaul is all I've ever known. I would not want to do P&D. OTR is out of the question because I have a family, and I'm not interested in being away from home - and for much less pay.

Coffee and a lot of it for me in the days after a long night. Usually a reload at a dock some distance from the pre-sunrise delivery. That dock is sometimes a chance to get a wink of sleep and be ready to put away another 600 to thousand by next day.

    It's a young man's game.

Regardless the end of week after a goodly number of hours worked the weekends are invested in sleeping and making ready to get going sunday.
