My wife had relatives in South Texas. Who informed us that the 12-year olds could deal with up to the six-footers. But had to go find an adult to deal with the big ones

Growing up in the southwest , then rattlers can get ya if ya ain't pay in attention .. Most of the time u will hear it before ya get to close , if u hear it just stop where ur at and find where he's at then back up away from him , don't try to #### with it.... The bad part is not getting bit , the bad part is paying the hospital bill when u have to get anti venom in u.. My buddy back about 6 years ago he had 5 bikes of anti venom put in him and they was 20 grand a piece,.. At that price I think I'd rather be dead

When you run that part of the USA long enough you get to have eyes and ears for them. If the ground has nothing on it you are good.

Here in arkansas had a few on my land, don't know anything about them except that they captured any pests before we had to deal with it. They generally stayed in a particular area near a outbuilding shed. I probably had to back away twice in my entire time there.

Generally they will make noise to warn you off and coil up for the strike if needed. Just remember that anti venom is in limited amounts and run from 14000 through 30000 each for a big stick. You might need a few. More if they had to fly it in from other hospitals after running out.

Im just happy I never had to figure out if I can take a snake out with my colt. Probably can do it, but it's a small target.

Yeah, they will feel you coming (ground vibrations) before you can even see them, like if they were in some grass. They will warn you of thier presence well before they strike.

Just stop and ease back when the buzzing starts.

Often confused with the Great Basin Gopher Snake (bull snake). Looks like a rattle snake, but it isn't. no rattler on the tail, but they like to hiss and twitch thier tail to imitate a rattle snake.

"But they will bite," so treat them like a mean dog and blast them anyway is how that's pronounced.
