I have recently and unfortunately wrote off my baby. she was a 96 Volvo WIA with 46 rears that I was using for log haul in MB. now have to shop for a replacement. My old girl was sweet, powered by a 3406E so lots of power when I needed it. However, Volvo was not built for bush life. Now my problem, KW or Pete? Mack or Frtlner? Cummins, CAT, Detroit? Course 46 rears again but Super 40 could be possible. Tandem forsure, Tridrive waste of time in MB. and help appreciated.

Just gotta find the right Volvo. The mid-late 90's Volvo Autocar was tougher than a Western Star lol.
bzinger Thanks this. -
Had a 2013 Western Star 4900SF for three years pulling super B. Nice solid truck, no squeaks or rattles.
Now have a 2016 Cascadia plastic truck. Lost both heater cores and the radiator, plastic aluminum garbage.Canadianhauler21 and Phantom Trucker Thank this. -
Volvo VHD is built for bush work, fantastic truck tractor. Available with any front axle/suspension and any rear axle/suspension you want, and the extra low crawler gear (if going ishift) will get the wheels rolling in soft ground. Lots of ground clearance, sits really high.

I would definitely not recommend a cascadia for Bush life but at 830k on my 2013 well cared for cascadia it's pretty tight and looks close to new ....would be different story off road !
No matter the brand all makes are not as they once were.not4hire Thanks this. -
I'd say there's a reason KW and Western Star are the most common trucks in logging and oilfield. At least in BC and Alberta anyways.
Ol'Shusquatch, not4hire, magoo68 and 3 others Thank this. -
My go-to for off-road is the KW T800. I'm not saying there aren't equal or even better trucks from other manufacturers, but I haven't run them.
Of course pretty much any truck, in the right hands, can get the job done. I flogged a lot of KW, IH PornStars (but they were rentals ) 9900, FL Classic.
If I were buying it would be based on what I think would give me the most up-time at the least cost, so that would include service and parts availability.Phantom Trucker, Ol'Shusquatch and AModelCat Thank this. -
If you go Kenworth , talk to Andy at kenworth in winnipeg. he has built and sold lots of logging and construction trucks to guys into ontario and manitoba.
