So, I'm about to start hauling frac sand for a frac sand hauling company here in Colorado. He says he will start me at 28% of each load and detention pay will be 20/hr after the first hour. Is this a good gig? By the way, I am fresh out of CDL school. I will get 14 an hour while in training.

Kinda nervous. I dont know if its worth doing. I hear that the wells are down a lot from drivers.

Wells go down from equipment failure or crew failure. Frac companies are having a hard time finding experienced Frac hands because the Frac hands they had in the last boom didn’t come back when this boom started. Most took their experience into other areas. Inexperienced Frac hands with fall behind keeping the sand mixed properly or responding to sudden pressure changes. The ultimate screw up is when the sand fills up the well and they have to bring in coil tubing to get the sand out. Either way, an inexperienced or flat out bad Frac crew can turn a one month or less Frac job into several months

If you are loaded with sand and headed to a well and that well goes down you get paid to sit until the well goes back up. My record wait time is 21 hours.

With sandbox the well may run out of empty boxes. The sand comes in faster than they can use it meaning more paid wait time.

If you staying in the truck with no slip seat 12 hour shifts you’ll make over $2000 a week plus easy with three runs at least per day. And that’s taking it easy.

Either way jump all over it. Halliburton took out their company trucks meaning more jobs for the contract carriers

Will you be in the Windsor area? Not bad. I have to wait 4 hours. I don’t get much retention pay anymore.

He’s added several lately I believe. I haven’t talked to any of the drivers. I see them on jobs and loading.
Pulling for the same contractor, that’s a good deal. You should turn 3 to 4 loads average, 4-6 days a week I would guess.
