Hey guys, would like some input with real world numbers on end dump weights. I've run end dumps alot, always aluminum bodied though with both steel and aluminum frames. I know traditional thought is max payload and minimum weight but I have a unique job that is a little different than normal end dump work. Job is local haul, very short loop with 15 or more dumps a day, loaded both ways. The route is only a couple miles and half of it is offroad. The backhaul involves dumping unprocessed Rapp (asphalt milling, some fine, some in Boulder sized chunks). All tri axles like mine that I currently run the route with are steel bodied and even those suffer wear due to the sheer amount of material crossing through them. The guys pulling end dumps on the job are all framed trailers because of the unstable ground that the Rapp is dumped in, but their trailers are all aluminum bodied and they take a severe beating. The liners ($10,000) seem to only last a year or two and the sides of the trailer and tailgate take a huge beating. (Constant welding). Even though it may cost me some legal payload, im thinking a half round steel demo trailer or even just a steel end dump in general is the way to go for this situation. What is the real world weight difference between a 30ft aluminum bodied, steel framed end dump and a 30ft steel bodied, steel framed end dump? Due to the extreme nature of the dump site trailer length is limited to 28-32ft and framed is a necessity. I'd like to hear some real world numbers for people running similar setups. I just bought a 379 daycab road tractor with 46k rears and a wetline and it weighs in around 18k. My rough guesstimate with a tri axle steel framed end dump with aluminum body in the 30ft range would be a combo that weighs in around 32k-34k I think. Would a steel body put me at 35-37? Or are we talking 40k plus? Thanks guys.
