Great...next thing you know, they won't let an O/O turn a wrench on his own truck. You'll have to wait for some punk kid who won't show up with the right tools and hasn't really done more than oil changes and tire swaps at the truck stop, but since he shows up in the "service truck", DOT won't have any problem with him figuring it out as he goes.

I drove a Big wrecker for a while and this happens alot!! More than you'd think. I always do as you said. Put the truck in gear, set tractor brakes. Work on trailer. Set trailer brakes work on tractor. Well I used to. I can't get under my ride now and have disc on the tractor. I don't mean to be redundant and restating your post. But if it helps someone remember and not hurt or kill themselves....

Any time you get called around to the back, before you set the brakes, mash down hard on the foot brake 3 times, set your brakes, run your air back up, then go inside and see what they want. Just a bit of extra insurance against a bad brake adjustment finding.
