I had satellite radio in my last OTR truck and enjoyed it. The subscription was included by KW with the new truck.

I recently signed up for SiriusXM on my phone, smartTV. 200+ channels including NFL, NBA, NCAA Football, MLB plus music, news, talk, etc. The cost for an online/smartphone subscription is only $10/mo compared to $20-30/mo for the conventional satellite radio. If you drive where you always have good cell service and have the data on your plan it may fit your needs. If you set the audio quality to normal and your phone has a DataSaver setting it won't use but maybe 1-2GB per month for full-time listening. I would warn that listening on your phone or throwing it to the truck stereo by Bluetooth could leave you touching and using your phone more often, which cops might see as using your phone while driving. 1. mount your radio low on the dash. 2. Keep the phone screen as dark and low-light as possible. 3. Using a wireless BT keyboard which gives you mouse and keyboard control over your phone may avoid being seen as obviously manipulating your phone while driving.

The free-trial is 90 days. You can sign-up and establish an account and then go into your account settings and immediately turn off the auto-renew feature and you will not be charged if you forget about canceling the free-trial later. Rumor has it if you sign up with a series of email address you can have one 90 trial after another. Did you know that if you have an email address of EmailName@mailservice.com you can give out your email address with EmailName+Sirius1@MailService.com or any letters and numbers after the PLUS sign and it will go to your EmailName@mailservice.com inbox. Mail Service is whatever service provides your email, like Gmail or Outlook or Yahoo or whatever your ISP uses.

    I stumbled on a $99 for 3 year deal.

Seems like with a bit of Googling similar deals are possible. Even allows me to use XM on my phone.

They'll negotiate the rate down if you act interested then say you've changed your mind and it doesn't fit the budget. Satellite radio practically begs for subscribers I've never paid their full advertised prices in 15+ years.

That's a great deal. So that plays on your satellite radio AND your phone? Wow. When I move off-grid satellite radio is about the only subscription I'd be happy to pay for. Thanks

If you pay for a subscription yeah you can use that to stream from your phone. My wife has the subscription in her car and I just use that subscription to stream from my phone in the truck.

Yes, one subscription works in my Kenwood / Garmin dash radio. Same subscription allows me to use on my phone as well.

When I looked at subscriptions maye a year+ ago I thought a combo plan (vehicle + phone) cost extra versus a vehicle plan. I'm glad that phone is an included feature.

I used SiriusXM a lot when I worked in the Pacific & Intermountain Northwest. My only real complaint was on certain roads the trees or mountains blocked the signal from hitting the truck's antenna. But it was nice having it when I parked in a remote area with no cell service.

The truck stereo didn't have nearly enough pre-sets. The 1 or 2 dash-mount satellite unites also didn't have enough pre-sets as I would have wanted, so I'd just store the 1st channel in a group (say Comedy or Talk) and then click up/down for the others.

It seems satellite radio would be good for off-grid & if cell networks are knocked out in a region or for days. Just spitballing.

SiriusXM also has an app for the Amazon Fire Stick which is pretty good, although if you are listening in the truck you'd want some video at home, if your home time left any time for not doing something.
