Well i went to trucking school in green cove springs ,fl for one week in 1981 then went to work for Midwest distribution out of for Scott ,ks driving team in old cab over freight liners. making .08 cent a mile as team driver . these trucks was called dollar trucks because they put you in a lease purchase for $1.00 .

My first nite driving i saw a roadway driver killed trying to stay away from a 4 wheeler the 4 wheeler got a dented fender the roadway driver tractor flip and burned. that was on 70 in pa after getting of turnpike.

My second week i was in Louisiana on one of those swamp bridges no cb on traffic in right lanes stopping fast i moved to left lane in time to see a cop and a wrecked lady in car in the rain i locked brakes started to skid cop went to guardrail ready to jump some other driver waved me in front of him and i went back to right lane before reaching the wreck.

lead driver had vacation time coming in up state NY told me here is the town i live in i be back in 4 days heres a movie theater a grocery store and a bar here the truck do no move the truck till i get back on Tue this was Friday.

this elder lady comes knocking on my door and say are you so and so co driver said yes she say i am his mother and your coming home with me for super i said your son told me to stay here she say i am his mother and your coming with me.
Well we went to her house and my co driver his wife and 2 kids are there with his father sister and his mother come dragging me in he started to object and his mother and father say we did not raise you son to treat people like this,so he said OK and we had a great homemade super.

As we where eating they where talking about there vacation to the upper Adirondacks and there cabins. and what they where going to do , when there father invited me to come along my lead driver got upset and said i been with him 24 /7 for 3 months and you want me to invite him on vacation too ,his father said well he will stay with us in our cabin and if you and your wife would like some along time i would say be still.

Well we left at nite after supper and after packing all the stuff in two cars we drove for 3 hours till we get to this little place with no lites and load ever thing in 2 boats ad cross over to there cabins .

After waking up and finding they have no electricity, and no tv or radios are allowed i was like waht the heck, after being sad for a few hours his sister took me hiking ,canoeing, had the best 4 day vacation i ever had.

Going across i 80 in nevada in the early 80 the interstate was not finish yet and you had to driver thru every littl town like minamucca and so forth cause the casinos would blow the overpasses with dynimite so they would not losse any of the trucker buiness.

The trucking was alot more fun in those days than it is now less traffic, friendlier people better food.
