    I'd apply to Walmart. They have DCs in Hopkinsville, and Shelbyville, TN. It may put you at similar pay to UPS.

    UPS has a massive hub on the Northside of briley Pkwy, only problem is they are doing more cutting than hiring right now as you probably know.

    The western region contract does allow FT transfer;
    unfortunately you would probably have to hire on as PT again as ots feeder hires are usually in the NE region & Wisconsin/Minnesota.

    Stranger things have happened, especially in the south;
    management at UPS does whatever they want until they get caught - if they like/need you they will make things happen that are not contractual at all.

    If the Whites Creek hub hasn't been automated yet, it soon will be & will likely be the primary sort hub for the region which means more feeder work.

    If I were you, I would stay put & send feelers out there trying to let Nashville hubs know you would like to hire on if they have any FT openings come up that don't get filled from inside - if you quit before 5yrs, you forfeit all your pension accrual.

    If you can't wait, I would look into known good companies like Air products / Praxair / Linde / Messer for cryo work, OD / FxF for line haul, USPS as a TTO, Hittman transport in oak ridge if you like hauling regional/OTR radioactive & there are a large variety of fuel haulers to choose from.

    You will likely find most (small) companies in TN leave a lot to be desired if you are used to the UPS package - you already made it at UPS & obviously can deal with the nonsense/politics of the environment, so you should be good for other corporate mental stress type companies most can't handle.

    They still have 'good ol boy' mindsets in a lot of the south, & you should be just happy to have a job.

    Yeah, I smell a rat. The reason your place is saying no transfer, is they don't want to lose you. I think that's pretty crummy of them, and they could easily fit you in. Walmart is good, any food store, and companies like FedEx would roll the carpet out for you with UPS history. A little scoop on our all so famous UPS. I read, last year, their profit margin was down FORTY TWO PERCENT!! They currently cut, not laying off, over 12,000 people. Maybe consider it a blessing, Walmart had its best year ever. Sounds like UPS had their day.

    I think something else is going on there.

    UPS is union. Teamsters tend to be crybabies and union companies do a lot of things to discourage anything that might upset the status quo. In this case, the OP’s union “brothers” will absolutely have a cow at the other terminal if he transfers in, particulalrly if he got to keep his seniority.

    I bet if someone at your company transferred in from across the country and was able to bump you off your bid you very likely would not like it. He is correct that UPS drivers can not transfer. He can however often get preferential treatment when being hired if he is a good employee at his current location and he gets in touch with a location that is “hiring off the street”. Meaning they need enough new employees that working the way up the ladder from part time loader to full time feeder is not an option. If the OP will live 200 miles north of Nashville and doesn’t mind running team he “may” get hired in Louisville in a reasonable amount of time as they were still hiring off the street recently. If he wants to stay with UPS it will be easier if he keeps his current position until he finds a new job. He will have to quit his current position to be able to accept his new job offer. Some may not like it, but everyplace has rules some people may not like.

    Fortunately that isn’t possible at my company because we have permanent bids. The only way you’ll lose a bid run here is if you quit or take another.
