The OP’s thread isn’t about LTL. I started my career in LTL, peddled freight for a couple decades and am very familiar with the mindset. Old Dominion is one LTL company I am familiar with who hired numerous Teamsters. Con Way (now XPO) hired numerous Teamsters and offered me a job decades ago before I went to UPS after their founding company CF went out of business. There are definitely companies who wouldn’t hire former Teamsters, but there are plenty who look at the drivers record and not that the job candidates former employers drivers were represented by a union.
From UPS to Mom and Pop Company?

Got a couple questions....You mention family, is this wife or parents or brother/sister or cousins ? Do you live with family in the same house ? Or just in the same town. Do they work ? Will they also need to find new employment ? Why are you/them considering making a move ? What town do you live in currently ?

Worth considering that some of the DCs -- like Tobyhanna, PA and Ottawa, KS, for example -- are currently offering a $10k sign-on bonus. If you're considering starting out and don't care where, I'd go for one of the bonus-paying options and then explore transfer options later on with some longevity under your belt by then.
You do have to legally reside within 250 miles of the DC where you work, though. -
Saia allows transfers. You keep seniority depending if your Linehaul(mileage) or city p&d(city local work). They are not combined. Separate seniority boards. I have friends making a career with them. Even though they are very safety orientated they have calm down a lot with the cameras. You can make 110-120k on Linehaul pretty easy. They hire former teamsters. They are hiring in my area acouple layoff drivers from Ups. They hired my buddy when he came from Sysco.

As others have said, know where your bread is buttered. Large outfits typically have way better benefits. You might match the hourly rate but will fall short in the total package. My retirement is a 5% match 401k which would have been wonderful had i had it 20 years ago.
My wife makes twice what i make driving. I would follow her, common sense. Not the other way around.
Moving isn't worth being miserable at work. You haven't lived until you've ran a few 20 hour days in a week.
In small outfits you're the relief driver. -
I'd like to know what he ended up doing. UPS is very huge in Memphis (right next to FedEx world hub) so there's that. Me personally, I'd stay with UPS. Literally can't beat what they offer.
Sirscrapntruckalot and gentleroger Thank this. -
But there is more to life than money. I hated every minute I was at UPS. I was there 4-5 months.ConsciousTrucker Thanks this. -
