I'm replacing all fuel lines myself on a Freightliner Century. The engine is recessed under the rain gutter. I'm figuring the best way to reach the supply and return lines on the back of the head is to remove the rain gutter. The only other option I see is to remove the valve cover and lay something flat on it. But I'm not keen on that option. I'd be afraid of a small piece of wood-if I used a ply board-getting in the top of the head and I wouldn't be able to see it as it's covered in oil. It looks like I wouldn't be able to reach the hoses coming from underneath. And that's even if I remove the side skirt and 1/4 fender. Has anyone ever done this job who could give feedback? It goes without saying I don't want waste time removing the rain gutter only to find out I still can't reach those hose ends. TIA.

I usually turn the wheels to the right and pull the drivers side inner fender. That gives you the best access if you're pretty good with your hands

Right side or left side of the truck to access? I couldn't see or feel (when I was laying on the valve cover) where they went into the head. I have Series 60. If it's the right side (passenger), the exhaust pipe is filling up most of the space between the frame and the cab.

I can look on my Detroit software to see where the ports are.

I edited I guess while you were typing. Turn wheels to the right and pull drivers side. What year is your truck?

The fuel line from the filter housing to the back of the head runs behind the starter. It has a clamp bolted to the block that's hard to get to and buried in wiring.

It will go to the bottom fitting and will swivel on each end.

The return line is on top, and likely will not have a swivel. It's easier to pull the hose off at the check valve, then turn the line at the head

    Yes.

You're other options are dropping the driveline and going over the trans, or pulling valve cover and jakes.

No BS, it ain"t easy, but that's how I access them. You'll be working with one hand. So if you have mobilty issues with your fingers, it's almost impossible

Ok. At least I have a plan of attack. The fender is a lot quicker to remove than the rain gutter. Thanks

Now their maybe differences with different models but we did it this way on some day cabs. Put a small hydraulic jack under the right rear corner of the cab. Jack it until the shocks are extended out. Remove the panel under the left side of the cab. A slim man can get there. It is not comfy so buy him and his wife dinner. Do not forget some safety blocks.

I'll try that. I am the slim guy who's going to do the job. And then I'll cook dinner for my wife and me. I do all the cooking when I'm at home. I used to be a "chef." Thanks
