Who makes more money in the long run...A Hazmat Chemical Driver or a Hazmat Fuel Driver? Which would you prefer to do & why?

Depends on all sorts of variables.

Regional, local, OTR, region, driver experience, company name....

    Depends

You do realize there are maybe 1000 or more different variables here. Just to start what company? Where? What are the traffic lanes? What type of equipment? Time? You are only going to get highly generalized answers.

There is nothing to gain by struggling in the same Hazmat situation.

I'll haul the fuel as much as I hate the gasoline and fear it. The money will take care of itself.

Personally i stick with fuel as i know the does and don't, with chemicals you've got all sorts of hazmat issues to worry about.

I usually hauled caustic or acids. Once in a while I had skull and cross bone placards among others.

A few required me to mix a group of placards and decide if all of them were legal to be in the same truck. THAT was a headache. Not only I had to be CORRECT, I also had to do it under the eyes of the Law, DOT scales etc. The financial and personal risks to loss of freedom and possibly a accident severe enough to kill a town while they slept at night... is pretty high.

Fuel is easy. Gurgle it into a big tank, slam the hatch shut and go.

I deliberately choose not to touch hazmat. All of my hazmat were perfect and I simply desire never to be stressed ever again with a big truck. Life is so... beautiful and no stress when you have a million plus in narcotics going to detriot. They don't weigh anything to worry about and your unmarked truck does not get attention and the payroll takes care of itself. Why should I add to my stress with hazmat and all that pertains to it? Im not that stupid.

And you are still going to be paid 0.34 a mile. So there is no point in having all that jewelry on your CDL and so on.

I agree, you're nuts for doing either one. Used to be, you were paid a premium for risking your life but I think it all pays the same now. I never thought I'd say this, but the only thing I'd do these days is flatbed, and even that would be limited. No tubs of nuclear waste either.

    Fuel pays more than chemicals.....

But it ain’t like it used to be ...... the majors have all dumped their trucks and its a constant race to the bottom with the rates.

Plus your home when your off duty.
