What are some memorable things you have seen at truckstops.

I was at a truckstop in meridian Ms, waiting in line to get my towels for a shower, the guy ahead of me was turning in his towels. The manager ask if that was his pete parked in the fuel island, then started reaming him a new one, because they had a few acres of NICE parking and the lot was basically empty, no reason at all to be parked in the fuel island. I just stood there smiling loving it. Finally quit and the guy started to leave, when the manager told him to hold up, he was going to look at his video, and see if he could find out who took his hood off. I lost itand laughed so hard, I practically wound in the floor.

We were two trucks, identical in most respects. One of us suffered a flat. So we pulled off I-80 in western PA to the tireshop there. Tire man says what can we do today? Got a flat. Ok. Where is the tire. On the truck with the flat. Well which is it? The one that's flat. (They are both flatbeds...) What kind of tire. It's round. What type is it? It's black. Pause... what do we do with it? Well we put air into it. What's matter with it? Well it's flat. (Back to square one)

I could go on but I think we figure the man had just about enough of that and it didnt take 20 minutes to drop a new tire on that wheel and go. We had our fun for the day.

I was sitting in the dining room eating at a truckstop on 146 in LaPorte TX once and all of a sudden, everybody in there ran to the windows, then ran across to the windows on the other side, then repeated. This went on for quite a while, there was a guy running around the building, naked as a jaybird with a beer in his hand and a cop chasing him. lol
It was funny watching the people running back and forth across the building.

a couple of times, i had been brushing my teeth at the bathroom sink, or shaving, and i actually witnessed truckers washing thier hands, after using the toilet.

i thought the world was coming to an end, so THOSE times, i headed for the buffet table, knowing i wouldn't catch something!

Love it. I rarely ate at any buffet, not because of any paranoia, but because I just didn't eat all that much and preffered to just order what I wanted. I would chow down on a good breakfast buffet once in a while, and the truckstop at Tye texas used to have a barbeque buffet on thursdays that was some good viddles.

I forget the name of the truckstop at exit 4 on 1-20 in Georgia, but I have been known to pay for the buffet there, just to load up on nanner pudding, they had some of the best banana pudding I have ever eaten.

I pulled in and parked in Charleston Sc one saturday evening, I was going to be their till monday morning, It was just about dark, so I parked in the back lot and walked towards the building. Walking through the front lot, I walked past an OO leased to fed X, working on his rig. I ask if he had everything he needed, as I keep quite a few tools and an assortment of parts. He had his cold side air to air hose off and was putting some short pieces of automotive pipe in there. I ask what he was trying to accomplish, and he said it was sucking closed when he accerelated so he was trying to reinforce it. lol I tried to explain that there was pressure there not vaccumn, but he insisted, so I went in and got coffee. He came in in a few minutes and said it was still doing it, I told him that his air cleaner would have to be stopped up solid for that to happen, which he explained was not possible BECAUSE, he did not have an air cleaner in it. I told him it had to have one, but he explained that he had had his truck serviced a few days before and they had told him he needed a new air cleaner, and since he didn't want to buy one he had them just leave it out. lol I couldn't belive my ears. I then told him his turbo must be locked down tight, but I thought it would pull enough air through even if it was to not do what it was doing.
He then told me if I would drive his truck down to applebees, he would buy me a steak dinner. I did and that was the sickest detroit I had ever seen, back firing and blowing smoke rings, bobtail and just enough power to get 25 or 30 mph.
I told him I would help him with it the next morning. When I pulled the intake pipe off the turbo, it was stuffed with news paper, it had not even got in the fins, but had the turbo inlet closed up solid. I ask how was this even possible. A volvo gets air through an opening in the hood, but it has a grill on it and no way possible for a newspaper to go through it.
The day before he had stopped at a truckstop and some clown in the parking lot was washing windshields for a buck or two, he had let him wash his windshield and he had left the newspaper under the hood. lol

When I found it, I told him he could feed that sucker all the newspaper he wanted, but he would never teach that volvo to read. lol

i liked the buffets, when ever i had to do my rest. be the buffet breakfast, lunch or dinner, i'd usually pig out, and not eat anymore that day. so it actually helped me stay with-in my weight range.

plus, it was cheaper than eating 2 times or 3 times a day, and stopping for anything more than fuel, and the bathrooms..

I always tried to do one good sit down, waitress wait on me a meal a day, other than that chips and snacks in the truck, except for COFFEE, I do not run out of COFFEE. lol
I would carry stuff to make meals running back and forth through Canada, for some reason I was not thrilled at the food available at many places, I did find enough good ones over the years to get my meal a day, it just took a while.

Running north up here, there is only one place halfway to eat, and there is just a few items I will eat there, so what I generally do is in the winter, have my wife make me a BUNCH of breakfast burritos, keep them under the bunk, so they will stay froze, then lay them on the easy reach dash in front of the heater vent and presto, full meal. I leave here with a full thermos, and carry a one burner propane stove and a perculator to refill it at prudhoe for the ride back and All life is good.
I have gone out on gravel jobs for as much as 8 days and lived on burritos and coffee. lol

walmart has many very good frozen meals, like my favorite brand, Marie Calendar, for $2.50.

several of those (if you got a fridge and a nuclear reactor), and you're set for life.
