Hey all,
I have been lurking around on here for a while and thought I would say hello. I am currently enrolled in Tidewater Community College's Class A program in Portsmouth VA and am from the Richmond VA area. I drove class B for a while and will be carrying over my hazmat and tanker endorsements so hopefully those will help me land a job. I will be graduating in about 4 weeks and am continuing my search for a good company to work for. Thanks for all the great info so far!

OMG! i graduated from that program almost 30 years ago! i didn't know they were still around. are they still at the old airport? if it's anywhere near what it was when i went there you won't have a problem finding a job, they really prepare you. good luck

They are at the old portsmouth campus off of 664 on college drive. The program is awesome so far. They really teach you a lot not just about driving but everything from logs to how the truck systems work and maintenance. I am doing very good so far, I hope I will be able to find a decent job when I am done!

back when i was there va companies gave you a years experience just for graduating, they were that well thought of. but then again mr crabtree was still an instructor. only man i knew that could back a pup up around the whole course.
have you been out on the street yet?
-
Yeah we just started going off campus this week, went out today actually. I have really gotten the hang of shifting and watching the trailer off tracking around corners. Our instructors are Mr. Woods, Ledbetter and Vann. They are a good group of guys who have been driving for about as long as I have been alive.

ledbetter sounds familiar. is he @ 5'10" half bald, thin with glasses? what's been the hardest part for you so far?
i sent you a pm with a job lead, i have 5 friends who work there at our local terminal and they love it. -
Mr. Ledbetter is short with glasses, but he isn't to skinny anymore haha. He is an old navy guy if that rings any bells.
I just got your pm but I can't reply yet. That job is very close to me I will definitely check it out. How do you like it there? I know I would be comingin at the bottom of the ladder so if I had to work the docks or be a yard jockey for a bit until I learned the ropes they wouldn't get any complaints from me!
Thanks again!
