725D4ED9-5F27-48B8-A8B1-8EFAC3B398D7.png Found a Galaxy DX 44V and amp combo for sale on CL in town, was wondering about opinions on this radio/amp setup. + I’ve never ran an amp before.

can I run this on my normal circuit that powers my cb now? Or do I need to make a modification. Currently I run a cobra 29ltd classic (bought new a couple years ago) with a Wilson 5000 antenna

It seems pointless to run that amplifier.
The amplifier is too small to put behind that radio. I would just run the radio barefoot.

Ok, this radio would be a step up from the modern 29 cobra I got right? He’s only charging $100 for this radio. Comes with 2 microphones and some accessories

I’ve wanted a galaxy or a Stryker for a while too. On my research, someone mentioned regret from getting rid of this radio, and how well built it is?

You could call it a step up from a Cobra 29, since it's basically the same design with a few extra features such as TalkBack and Echo. The main feature that radio has which would make it worthless to me is the FM mode. I would rather have single sideband on the radio. I guess if you can get it real cheap in good working order, and you're happy with it, that's the main thing. It looks well used.

Thanks for the reply, so if I’m looking for a better radio, would I be better off holding that $100, and putting that towards a $500 model galaxy, Stryker or a conex?

any brand and or model in particular I should be looking for in your experience that would be a noticeable improvement for me? 10 meter converted to 11? Or buy an 11 and get it peaked?

    Any opinions? (thanks!)

Anytone AT6666 ! Some folks don't like menu-driven radios but I find that once I set the menu items, I leave them be

Honestly tho, if you already have the Galaxy, enjoy it. It will do the job nicely

If there was a way to know 100% that the Galaxy has never been tinkered with, it might be a good deal. That's what I would be concerned with

I wonder if it would be better to buy a $300 10 meter Stryker, connex, or galaxy and have a cb shop convert it? I’m looking to get a 3-5 mile range. I have a strong 1-2 mile clear range less than 1 SWR now, just looking to add some range and strength.

Sounds like you need to focus on your antenna first. You should get 3-5 miles out of basically any radio with a good antenna.
