Yes it is. Recently jumped from a Union LTL to a Ma & Pa operation ( around15-25 drivers ) but it's a multi-million dollar operation with a landfill and recycle center since 1955 , Dollar less per hour and better benefits ( healthcare provider is better ) still 100% company paid. doing roll off dumpster ( class b straight truck ) OT/40 which is okay and a 401k ( not fond of )

Nothing is perfect, Still it's possible to make money.

I don't work for a traditional refuse hauler ( Waste management, BFI ) Those companies have mandatory/Voluntold weekends for a holiday weekday due to them having a monopoly on many towns.

    Voluntary weekends.
Hours a week? Minimum is 50 hours, I gross between $2500-$3000 per two weeks.

What type of trucks are you trying to drive in the garbage industry? I hauled trash from the transfer stations to the landfill in the Chicago area and the pay was terrible... It was paid per load... With traffic, and all the waiting you do at the transfers and the landfill wasn't worth it at all... Long long hours... 6 days a week... The only way I would do it If I were you would be if it paid by the hour with overtime after 8 or 40...

The company I was working for doesn't care about a log book or anything like that... If you want to work 20 hours a day you can... They have guys that come into work Friday at 4am and don't leave until Saturday around 10am...

I was working between 70-90 hours a week,,,

No thanks they can have that

    Spot on !
Many guys here opted for Pay per load. I chose hourly with OT.
Not lazy, Did pay per load years ago, NO thanks.

Here, Could run 24/7 if you desired. ( not joking )

My day starts @ 0430. Have to tell the owner going home. Work is never ending. Would be great for people that live to work.

    HalpinUout and jlembie35 Thank this.

I'm sure you have Republic and waste management up there right?

I just found out that Republic in Chicago area tops out at $33.00 an hour after 3 years... As soon as they have an opening at the yard by my house I plan on trying to get on...

    Shaggy and jlembie35 Thank this.
