As far as the truck units, probably 90% of us would use the sunshade. The rest drive at night. The trucks have large cabs with large windows and the sun will be on the screen at a high angle so you can't see it at all. It wouldn't take much to block it at that angle. But it would have to to go across the top and down the sides, not just on top.

I believe there are times that EVERYONE who uses that GPS will find a time they wish they had a sunshade for it. And not just in big trucks. Unless you are using a unit that is built into the dash of your vehicle, it has to sit either on the dash board, or suction cupped to the windshield. Whichever, there are times that the sun is going to shine on it in such a manner that you just cannot see the screen.

And the one I use on my ATV most definately needs a sunshade.

Hi .I use a Garmin 3.5" in a commercial vehicle to get me around to my deliveries . .
Want to know what my greatest concerns/fears are?
The first one has to be low clearances . . .
I want to know before I choose a road, and I stress BEFORE! weather this road I am about to turn on has an overpass on it that is 13'6" or lower on route . .the reason is, I am 70 feet long and lots of roads present a significant challenge due to their narrowness, in the event I should need to "turn around" due to an unexpected low clearance that I cannot drive/fit underneath.
This would create new hazards (blocking traffic, damaging property, grass etc.)

The Garmin units designed for truck use already do this.

No they don't. They warn about roads trucks aren't allowed on, but I've never seen mine warn or even know about any low clearance anywhere.

Really? For some reason I thought mine did that but perhaps I'm just thinking of the restricted truck roads like you said. In that case, I agree. If it doesn't give low clearance warnings/low weight warnings, it should do the same with them that it now does with posted truck restricted roads.

What would also be nice is if it would show roads with restrictions and/or height/weight issues when you're simply scrolling around the map and also when you're approaching them while using the regular map view. IOW, I'm driving along and the GPS isn't navigating anywhere. I can see out the window that I'm approaching an intersection. If I look at the GPS screen I can see that road on the map from the current zoom level. It would be nice if the map drew that road in such a way that I would know at a glance I shouldn't make a turn onto that road if I'm thinking of doing so. I don't necessarily want it beeping and requiring my attention every time I cross a road I shouldn't turn on to, but it would be nice to have the info available at a glance so I can keep going straight and/or pull over and sort it out before I make a turn onto a road I shouldn't be on.

lol, My $100 truck GPS does all these things, height, weight, length (kingpin-axle and overall) restrictions, ahead. Tells me which 'side streets' are NO TRUCKS as I'm driving, sans directions.(ex laid out by jgremlin) Audio/video input for a back-up camera. FM transmitter to play the directions over the radio, Bluetooth for my phone. C'Mon Garmin? You're going to tell us these ideas never occurred to you, and adding them, will make a $500+ unit?

my old garmin Streetpilot 330 had a dial on the side you could easily raise and lower the volume. The volume was always loud enough at it's highest level, on the newer GPS the volume at it's highest level doesn't cut it plus you have to take your eyes off the road to touch the screen three different times just to adjust the volume.
