    Hey all,
I'm looking for someone who has failed a drug test and eventually got back into trucking, not looking for criticism about how drugs and trucking don't mix , i know this already. To give my background, i drove for abiout a year and then on my hometime i couldn't keep my nose clean, so to speak. This happened in October 2011. i immediatley went through the SAP program. Obviously I've found out that most companies wont give me the time of day right now. I've talked to a couple who say after 3, 5 or 7 years they will look past the drug test. My question is, hopefully for someone who has gone through this and is currently back OTR, will i need to find a refresher course after the 3 years is up?? I know most companies won't hire you unless you have 1 year expericence in the last 3 years so by the time one of these companies will even consider me i won't have the expericience anymore. I'm figuring for at least the 3 yeaers i will have to find something else to make money but hope that it is possible to eventually get back out there. I really did love being on the road. Anyway, i appreciate the insight from anyone who has gone through this already.

Stay away from the OTR carriers. With thousand of wannabes banging at their door they won't take you .
I was working for a private carrier that had a driver fail his prehire . The thing was they hired him before they got the results. They put him through a program with a SAP and he kept his job. In these cases it really helps to know someone tthat is in the industry and can give you a good reference.
    franktaylor Thanks this.

i am going to take some time away from it . But i'm hoping to get back in 3 years. that's why i'm looking for someone thats done it and can guide me thoough the process they did. I've read all the sites about going to a mom and pop and all that. I actually have a friend who has a friend that owns a company that said they would hire me but i know i would have to do some illegal runs with them and i don't even want to put myself in a position of screwing up worse. Anyway, thanks for the comments though

the insurance companies pretty much dictate on how situations like this play out. you can get back to trucking with a failed drug test or a dui, but it is a long hard road. they (the insurance) look at it from the standpoint of if you were not responsible enough to make the right choice the first time, why should you be trusted again? i do wish you the best though and good luck.

a dui maybe after a year.

drugs. your probably screwed untill you can get the thing expunged from your criminal record. unless you can find a smal local company that isn't picky and will probably pay bottom wages cause they khow your chances are sliim for just any driving job.

good luck though., and don't listen to what other posters say. we all live to have fun in life. and some types of fun just come with consequences.

we can't all be goody too shoos. but we do howecer GROW UP.

Trucking and drugs did in fact mix. But then they started urine testing in the 90s. Now they don't mix.

Hopefully you're not looking for approval for this, but mentioning it sounds like you are. My advice: don't consider it. I'm not "experienced" but personally I won't take chances like this. Best of luck to you and stay safe.

im really not planning on going this route cuz i figure i'm already pretty much unhireable , i don't want to make it worse by getting caught running illegally.
