I think the big difference is that you apparently cost your current company a chunk of cash during your not so stellar start. I'm thinking the reason you are still there is that they are trying to climb out of the financial hole you dug for them. Do as you wish. Just be careful

I’m spoiled with tanker so I’d say get your endorsement. You’ll be hard pressed to find a dry can or reefer outfit that pays you for EVERYTHING you do.

And, when I say paid I mean paid, none of this $100 a day for breakdown, detention, blah blah blah.

I break down, I get $25 an hour. If it’s in the shop for a few days, I get my daily average pay. My truck goes in for routine service? $25 an hour! Gotta get new tires put on, $25 an hour. If I can’t immediately start loading or unloading when I get to a customer? $25 an hour. Gotta go for drug test? $25 an hour.

On the EXTREMELY rare occasion I get stuck out over night, I get hotel room and $100 for being out over night. That’s on top of my pay for the load. But again, it’s VERY RARE I stay out over night (only happened twice in the past 3 years)

Forget GP Transco. Another cookie cutter business with no trucking comprehension.

Keep looking at smaller companies. They aren’t second chance. They do know how it goes. They have comprehension.

Check out Britton Transport. They are a smaller company. They are based out of Grand Forks, ND but run all over. I ran flatbed for 3 years with them. Treated me well. I left to come to a company that I worked for prior that is very small but also treated me well. They had a new opportunity that fit my needs well. Anyway, Britton has a Dry van/reefer division. Worth a look and a phone call. They will be straight up with you. Brittontransport.com.

I wasn’t a 2nd or 3rd chance driver. I spent a year and one day at WE. I ran out of their Bloomington yard. They were good to me, and I made decent money as a brand new driver. I still talk to my old DM and about 1/2 a dozen of the people I trained there. Nothing wrong with them...for a new driver.

They aren’t the next step (IMO) though.

I could be wrong, usually am, but I believe there’s better places to go if your driving record is clean.

EDIT: Just finished the thread. If WE is something you’re looking into absolutely talk to Felipe out of the Bloomington yard. DM if you’d like and I can explain further. Don’t listen it the people who never drove for them.

I have been with Crete (and/or Shaffer) for 19 years. May not be the absolute best, but I have been treated well. Most Crete (dry van) drivers can get near or over the 3,000 mile mark per week, the miles are here. My goal is 2,200 to 2,500 and I attain that every week, unless I am off for part of it. I get home on time and every time I want to go, with no issues. As long as you make your pickup/delivery times most asset managers (dispatchers to every other company) will not bother you at all. I run SE Regional and top pay on this fleet is now $0.59 cpm, I believe...at least as May 1 (when the next raise kicks in) that is where I will be, even with 20% being taken out for the 401k I still bring home over $800 weekly, usually more and sometimes more than $1000. Also between May 1 and Dec 31, they are adding what they call "Surge Pay" of $0.02 cpm on top of your base rate. They did the same last fall, and when it ended as of 12/31/2020 it actually continued as a $0.02 base raise for all fleets. Crete National 21 fleet is over $0.60 cpm now I think, and Shaffer National 21 (temp control) is around $0.65 cpm. These numbers are topout numbers, and persons with less experience will start lower, but the start pay on the SE Regional fleet I am on is $0.56 cpm. National fleets are more, most likely.
Also, Crete does hair follicle testing in orientation, and if you are heavy, they will probably require a sleep study.
