So I'm a driver for prime Inc, got my license through them, but now I'm over a year good with no accident or tickets so I'm planning my career. But here's the problem, I had to test on my trainers truck, which was auto, I understand that the company does this to lock a driver in to prevent turnover or poaching from other companies. But now the companies I'm looking at require the restriction gone. I just need time behind a 10 speed and test out, but don't know how to approach it with my company, because if I ask I may risk some sort of retribution. But cdl school here don't have a specific course for this, the only answer is a week long refresher course that I can't take because 1) I only get 4 days off per month, 2) it's not a guarantee I can even get behind the wheel, and 3) I'm always too broke as a joke (life full of debt and bad decisions) .
Does anyone know if I can talk to my dispatch without having to explain why I want it gone and get it through the company? or do I need to go through the whole process of getting a permit, going to CDL refresher course, and all that jazz?
Getting rid of my auto restriction

FlaSwampRat and born&raisedintheusa Thank this. -
Place resembles Jonestown. Nice neon signs. All the amenities the homeless could want.
And one reason why I have to deadhead 200 miles out of my home 20 to find freight paying worth a hoot - inbound and outbound.
Good luck. -
Do you plan to stay with Prime?

Not really, they're a terrific starter company, good for job security, but they don't do pay increase very well. Benefits are ok. Not stellar, but I've seen alot worse. Though for a first time driver, they make sure you know what you are doing, give nice new rigs. I kinda don't want to let them know that I plan to leave as soon as I get a (good) job offer.
