Gladhand Seals Theft, Who's Taking Them?

I remember for a long time, some loads had to be dropped at the border and a Mexican company hooked and made the delivery. That company would bring the empty back to the border to a drop lot just across the border in USA.
Problem is, they'd swap out the tires and put bald tires on the trailer and sometimes swap out the reefer unit with one that was just junk and wouldn't even run.

 

Yes. Half the preloads at melton's laredo yard are missing theirs.

 

Tail lights, valve stem caps, glad hand seals. The list goes on and on.

 

, I can see someone never hauled railroad wagons. You were lucky if the chassis had glad hands at all. One always carried all kinds of items, usually taken from "out of service", glad hand seals were the most frequent, then light bulbs, and ALWAYS carry a spare dolly handle. Oh, must be on the other side, nope, none at all. Takes a long time with a vice grips. Chinatown mentions tires, and why I was told, the RR kept using tube tires, so nobody would want them. Even sadder, you'd hear someone with a big air leak, never even checked the seals. Don't newer glad hands have a permanent piece of rubber?

 

Landstar Laredo yard.

They will steal anything down there that they can get away with including my fuel cap. I wasn't inside the office more than 5 minutes and someone stole that fuel cap. I am convinced its not a company problem its a Laredo problem.

Landstar Laredo would fully inspect the trailers because they were coming back from Mexico without the LED lights and bad tires. Not uncommon to pick up trailers down there without a handle for the landing gear and the hoses for the trailer tire inflate system gone.

 

Swift Laredo. Fond memories. That terminal is where I learned to carry a bag of glad hand seals and I still do.

The guard shack used to make us surrender two load locks at the gate. If you didn't have any you had to go buy two of them before they would let you in.
