I never use any cleaner in the winter time, just dry paper towels, it all just wipes off clean...
all that spraying the cleaner does is put ice on there, then its a PITA to get your mirrors clean. -
Here's my situation.
Had the windshield replaced months ago in a KW T680. The glass had some kind of film on it, handprints, suction cup and tape marks. But, those were the clean spots. No matter how i cleaned it or what i did, the thick film of crud would not scrub off. I researched the problem on the net and this is what it took to get the glass deep cleaned.
With a large sponge, i cleaned the interior of the windshield with comet. Comet is a good deep cleaner for window glass, but it didn't do a thing to get this film off. So i let it dry and polished the glass with extra fine 0000 grade steel wool
Again, it didn't do anything at all. So, i got the steel wool wet and noticed it was beginning to make a tiny clean spot but, it took a ridiculous amount of physical effort to clean a tiny area.
Next, i put comet on tbe wet steel wool and literally wet sanded the entire one piece windshield on the inside.
Four hours later when i thought the work was done, i ran a clean wet cloth across the glass and i could see places that still had film on it, water beaded up on those spots from the film.
I took the 0000 steel wool pad wet and polished out the last of the film till a clean wet rag would squeak across the glass.
Now, one tip i found online from detailers was to ditch the rainex and use a really good quality wax to seal the glass. I use "Dual Polymer Waterless Car Wash" on the paint, so i laid a good thick coat on the glass. Almost six hours' total work just to clean the interior of the windshield, but whatever that gook was, it's finally gone.
I'll clean the outside on a cool evening, it's gonna be a lot of work.
Waterless Car Wash is hard to find, the stuff works great and lasts a long, long time. Here's the website for anyone that's interested. www.DualPolymer.com -
There's a product I used to get in West Sacramento @ a parts store. It was called "Nothin's Better". Almost like jewelers rouge. Put some on a wet rag, buff till squeeky & clean...perfect... took off water spots, etc just great.Haven't been able to find it for years.
Anyone?? -
Buy spray deicer..in the summertime and stockpile it.

Ah ha. Yeah. Amazon has been out for a couple of years. Maybe the mfr sold to the GM supplier. Going to research it.
Thanx much. -
Just checked everywhere. Bon-Ami powder cleanser is the stuff. There is also a product @ Ace hardware/Amazon called "Gel-Gloss No-Streak"...supposedly even better. About $6.00. I'm gonna try it.
