hey guys i have a pre 2000 glider. 1996 model. i have omnitracs. on my engine block it shows serial #. nothing else. the only paperwork i have is from detroit which freightliner gave me when i bought it from them. IF big IF i ever go back to paper will serial # and paperwork be good. or will it be a OOS.

If the tractor serial number indicates it is model year 1999 or before, you are not required to have an ELD.
The determining factor for the engine is the EPA model year of the engine. If the engine is a 1999 EPA model year or before, you are not required to have an ELD. There is supposed to be a decal on the side of the engine with that information, which over time either disappears or becomes illegible.
You can take that serial # to a Detroit Diesel dealer, he can order a replacement decal for it, costs about $100 last time i checked. Take the truck back to them when it comes in and they would have to place it on the engine.
Freightliner can provide you with a build sheet of the serial numbers of the various components as the truck was built. If it was a glider, there might be a serial number on the build sheet if it was a powered glider from the plant.

There is no regulation/law or whatever requiring you to show that your truck is elog exempted.
