Yep...But there's several radios on the market now with scan...Even the Cobra 29lx has scan....I seldom use scan, unless I have it programed like to scan between channels 19, 28, and one or two more sometimes.

The VOX feature is kinda cool on the McKinley...I've used it a few times, but takes some getting use to.

Isn't the custom scan cool, remember the old days of Dual-Watch only radios... It was usually between 9 and 19...

FYI: Channel 19 on GMRS can be used either in Repeater mode or Simplex mode.. 19 on GMRS allows up to 50 watts of output power Legally!

".....Note: You can use 19 as the High Power alternate to 7, but you must share channels 15 to 22 with Repeater Stations.--..."

Can you simply run the higher channels in Simplex Mode?

When using a GMRS radio in your truck it is recommended that you Monitor Channel 7 without Privacy Codes. Channel 7 is a 5 Watt channel, so always use the best antenna you can install on your truck.

---------- Note: You can use 19 as the High Power alternate to 7, but you must share channels 15 to 22 with Repeater Stations.--------------

Or simply scan 1 thru 7, and 15 thru 22... Leave you privacy (PL & DPL) codes off when searching for activity...

    Update:

When using a GMRS radio in your truck it is recommended that you Monitor Channel 17 simplex without Privacy Codes. Use channel 7 as an Alternate channel. Channel 7 is a 5 Watt channel, so always use the best antenna you can install on your truck.

---------- Note: You can use 7 as the Low Power alternate to 17, but you must share channels 15 to 22 with Repeater Stations.--------------
