Hello All-
I am a brand new driver and will be graduating from school in 2 weeks or so. I want to buy a house here in Kansas City (and call this home) but I am willing to drive over the road for a few years (I am single and no one is waiting at home for me). I have a very deep desire to see the western half of the country, even if it means some mountain driving. Some of the most beautiful places I have ever seen are out west.
My question is this:
Are there any companies or types of loads I can carry that would ensure I get to go out west alot if I want to stay here in Kansas City but am willing to be on the road for long stretches of time. I am willing to go coast to coast. But, I have been hearing that a lot more freight goes east than what goes west.
I know I pretty much have to take whatever I am given for the first year or so but can anyone give me some good advice on where to place myself and what type of running to do to have a good shot at going out West???
Go West, young man!

by the way,
The reason I included the bit about living in Kansas City is that I've noticed that many companies want you to live near their main hubs (most companies that deliver to the "Western 11" want you to live no further east than CO -

There is a co. called Transport Designs Inc. Out of Burnsville, MN. and they only run the western states.

Wait until you have a year driving before you make any hard decisions. You're assuming trucking is for you, it might not be. You may hate it and bail in a month. I loved it until the snow started flying, cause I was a S.Ca bred wimp. (Sunshine, yes, Ice and snow, nooooooooooo)

Westward loads...John Deere equipment out of Davenport, IA.
But as a recent graduate...Good luck getting on with any of the companies that haul them.
I hauled them for a few years...and I'm thinking about switching back over there, those were the best days I've had in a truck...by far. -
I think West and I think of reefer loads, produce. Produce goes all around the country. Notarps is right though, live out of your truck and save that cash towards your house. Don't bother buying it if you can't live in it yet.
