i invested in the co pilot truck 11 about a month ago i figured it would keep me off the roads that i souldnt be on. yeah right! it has been a nightmare.
last week i was going on us 69 southbound in texas from i30 and missed the truck bypass sign going into tyler tx. following the gps i drove right thru dodge and all of sudden i see a no thru truck sign i only had a couple of miles to go so i kept going and there he was just awaiting for me he waved me over and told me what i already recently found out on my own that i was not supposed to be there! i told him that i missed the bypass sign and that the gps that is designed for big rigs told me to go this way. and it didnt look like a restricted road. so anyhow the fine was $155 bucks ouch! and if u miss a turn using the co pilot it will try and get u turned around as fast as possable even
if the road it tells u to turn on has a 10 foot bridge its crazy i would have been better off just buying a garmin or somethig instead of the co pilot :biggrin_2556:

i have a garmin 260, the gps should be used as a tool, not solely depended
upon. your atlas and watching your road signs, will keep you from those type of mistakes.:biggrin_25525:

Get prepared for a lot of tickets in Texas then.

Most towns have a bypass for trucks.

I'm guilty of the same thing. But, I've been out here long enough to know which towns I have a chance of getting away with it in.

I would definitely be firing a nasty gram off to PCMiler too.

Your next question should be directed to the court clerk. As to what kind of violation you will be charged with. Although I'm sure the ticket has it on it.

    Reason(s):

Failure to observe traffic sign --- can translate into "Run Stop Sign" with some jurisdictions and companys (Insurance & Trucking)

Restricted route --- I dunno how serious that one is, I haven't been ticketed yet ;)

Was that the laptop verson or was it the small unit that is like the garmen? My guess would be that they use the same software/routing.
I have been holding out for the small unit as i dont want the wear and tear on my laptop. Mabey your right and i should just replace my tom-tom with a garmen and a LARGE scale atlas.
    Thanks

yeah i wont make that mistake again thats for sure and in the atlas which is an 08 has nothing about 69 being restricted and i did send a letter to pc miler
it is a good tool as long as u know what its capabilities are but i think if i did it all again i would have bought a garmin and not the co pilot im thinking of setting it up as hazmat and see what it does thanks for the replys and have a safe one and yes it is the laptop version

Co-Pilot is a great product until you get lost. Do yourself a favor, and write your route down in planning mode. The routes are usually very good. What you can do is edit your routing preferences to favor interstates and divided highways and not favor the secondary and local roads.

Obviously, you'll have to use these to get to your customers but it takes out a lot of the turns that are unecessary most of the time.

When you get lost, it seems like it will tell you to turn anywhere it sees a road, and that's where you have to ignore it and use your common sense. I find it's best to call the shipper/receiver to verify directions because sometimes, it can get a bit tricky.

Just remember to write your route down first so if the gps loses sync, it won't tell you to start turning places where four wheelers can barely go.

Setting it up for Hazmat should work. But daaaamn at the extra miles, if you follow it to the tee in some cities.

Supposedly Laptop 11 was supposed to have all the bugs removed. I had the last version and could not use it at all because it was not compatible with Windows Vista. It kept shutting down after a few seconds. They gave me the Laptop 11 for free and I have not installed it yet. I hope to god this one works the way it is supposed to. Otherwise I am going to blast them all over this board. Also, the last version actually had me get off I 80 west in Sparks only to have it tell me to get back on I 80 at the same exit. Problem was there was no onramp at that exit. The last version sucked big time.
