Hey everyone,
I recently started a portable storage business servicing Massachusetts (similar to PODS). I spend most of the day driving around residential neighborhoods in our truck, which is about 13' tall and 10 tons in weight with a fully loaded box. For bow, I've been using Google Maps for navigation, which is far from ideal for our needs. I plan on purchasing a dedicated GPS system which will allow me to avoid low bridges and weight restricted roads. Can you guys give me any recommendations for a good system?
I was also wondering about driving on roads where commercial trucks are prohibited. Occasionally, our customers live on these roads. Should we refuse to service said customers? What are the penalties for ignoring the prohibitions? And is it a safety risk? Driving safely is absolutely my top priority.
Thanks for any advice you can give.

I love my Rand McNally RM740. I've used it for 2 years with no problems. Both the RM and the Garmins have their own quirks. I would feel comfortable and happy using either the Garmin 580 or the RM 540, which are 5 inch versions of the 780 and 740. That will save you a little money and some real estate on the dash. Both RM and Garmin have "free lifetime updates" until they stop updating them. The RM needs to connect to wifi, I connect mine at home and occasionally to my phone hotspot, to update maps and info. The Garmin connects to sub-carrier of larger FM radio stations to get traffic and weather updates. Either brand will work for your needs. You can enter your truck size, weight, Hazmat, etc and it will use that for picking a route.
"Trucks Prohibited" regulations always make exception for local deliveries
I use my phone for real-time weather and traffic info while driving. I leave MyRadar and Trucker Path running on my phone in the background.byronrc15 Thanks this. -
