That's why I thot an $80.00 used unit or something would be sufficient to use along with the map you allready have, but I haven't seen the new Rand McNally yet (still qualifying to go to Missoula) or many GPS units.
Just seems like you could program it to show the route the map says is trucksafe. Then after a few paychecks, pick up a truck"safe" GPS and sell the car unit.

Looking at the Garmin website, I do not see where it says it has a truck setting. The specs on it look like the Nuvi 760 ( which I just bought). How do you select the truck setting on the 650. Thanks

I have the nuvi 660 and to get to the truck setting you go to the Tools Menu then to the Navigation options. The second option is vehicle and thats where you can change it from car to truck or taxi or a few others. let me know if the 760 has it.

I'm looking to get the 755t if it has the truck option because it has lane assist and a built in traffic receiver with lifetime access. i just got to get to a store and play with them to see if the 755t has the truck option or not.

I have the 760. Great unit but no truck setting.

On the NUVI 760, under Navigation it has "Avoidances" where I can select to avoid
    U-Turns
    Highways
    Toll Roads
    Traffic
    Ferries
    Carpool Lanes
    Unpaved Roads
but no low overpasses or any weight limits
Under "Vehicle" I can go to Garmins website and change the icon to a rig, but it does not change the setting. Only had it a couple of days, I like it so far, have on used it in the car.

ok the 700 series does not have it, only the c330 and 340 and the 600 series. Garmins web site does not tell you which has a truck setting. you want the ones that have nt navigator in them. the 600 series is discontinued by garmin but that dont mean crap. Go to ebay or amazon and buy a new one and you still get the warranty and the free map upgrade when you register it online. the 330 and 340 are very small screens andthe 650 which i have is a wide screen, the 660 and 680 have a bluetooth and other junk in them that cost more. Trust me i did alot of research on this gps situation and i found that the big price tags on the supposed truck gps was not worth it. I got mine for a little over 200 and it was brand new never opened.

    Alabamaspirit Thanks this.

Bangngears: why did you say "big price tags on the supposed truck gps was not worth it"? Is it inaccurate for trucks, or what?

well i think that it is. You still have to check the route and make sure you can run on it. i would rather pay 200 and check the route than 800+ and have to check the route. the new pc miler has had alot of problems with the software in it and worldnav is no better than my garmin. I am sure everyone of them has something different about it but i wanted a gps to help out not really run the truck. mine finds truck stops, wreckers, restareas, all the little things you like. It does not find scales but i have an atlas for that. my oor with the garmin has been about 6% and thats not too bad. my buddy who spent 500+ on world nav cant get his oor below 12%. As with any of these little boxes you really have to watch where they send you, i can do that and keep more money in the bank with the garmin. :yes2557:
