the company has 1 379 peterbilt, the only truck left in the entire fleet that has the "old school cool" look. its actually a decent looking rig. it doesnt have a cracked hood, dented this and that like allot of the trucks do. its a short nosed 379 nice blue color. actually out of all of the trucks its in my opinion the nicest looking truck. sure they have some brand new T880's but i would get one of those anyways. i really like the old school look. my question is the truck has a smaller sleeper. im currently driving a 2006 386 daycab 18 speed with a C15. i like the truck because it doesn't have a DPF system of any type and has two fuel tanks which means less time i spend fueling. when i started working there they had me in a 2010 KW T660, a truck with constant DPF problems which means i slip seated more then i would like to, i was told i could stay in the 386 if i choose to. at least im not afraid its going to break down. its a good running truck, although it has 700K miles, a cracked hood, and is a little down on power.
my question is how does driving that 379 compare when it comes to backing into tight farmers driveways; i have one that's blindside backing and a pretty bad driveway to get into. i know the 379 is going to be a longer truck so i have to watch my swing even more so i dont end up putting the truck into the ditch on the opposite side of the road.
guys in the shop said i could start driving the only 379 if i wanted

i have never had the chance to drive a W900 or 379

It shouldn't be that much different if it has a short hood.

A normal hood 379 (they only came,in a normal and an extended hood) actually turns pretty nicely.
Yes, you will have to pay a bit more attention initially. But once you get used to it, it's a pretty easy truck to turn and back. Not all that different from the T600 or 660, of I remember correctly. The major difference will be the lack of sight over the hood. -
Hoods have crappy turning characteristics. Been in a W-9 for 18 months now and really wish the boss woulda opted for an aero-style. I do still enjoy the compliments from other drivers though.

eventually the 386 im driving is going to be retired, i might be able to take the 379 in its place. the other choice would be a T660 which im not a huge fan of really.

Classics sucked as well. They had that block that stoped the turn.
