I am considering coming to work here now that they have a terminal in the Twin cities, which is much closer to my home.
I have read the good posts and bad posts on the other crybaby section on here and taken it all into consideration.
Does the twin Cities terminal have an actual shop? Just want to make sure it isnt just a "drop yard" and I can go home while my truck is being serviced.
Their HQ in Duluth being too far away is what kept me from applying in the past. Their pay looks near average for a medium sized outfit, factor in their bonuses, whether you get some or all of it makes it competitive. Benefits package looks attractive too.
So I am thinking I can do good there at 2500 miles a week or more even being on elogs.
My questions are, do they have consistent van and reefer freight to keep moving nationwide, in other words not sitting waiting long times for reloads after your unload?
Recruiter said a good chunk of loads goes east and northeast which doesn't bother me too much...as long as I keep moving.
How is their equipment overall? They had good CSA scores last time I checked.
How much time off will they give you? I like to run for about two weeks and take 3 maybe 4 days off. If you go home every week will they give you 2 days or only your 34 hour restart?
I would appreciate any info or advice, thanks in advance.
Halvor Lines van and reefer drivers, recent info and advice from current drivers appreciated.

I currently work for Halvor on the dry van side. I mostly run east of I35, but we do run all 48, Canada, and Alaska. I stay out a week or so at a time and I am always asked when I want to go out again and I am given multiple options for an outbound load. Unless of course freight is slow, then take whatever. They do want you to run an average of 9500 miles per month (full time). You can run them however you want....stay out the whole time, home every week, two weeks, etc....
All equipment is newer and equipped with inverters, satellite tv, fridge/freezer. Trailers are all decent and inspected by shop every three months or close to it. Of course depending when trailer comes through the Superior, Wi yard. The Inver Grove yard does have a mechanic but not a shop. I Think all servicing is done at the Superior Yard. Just call shop when headed up there and they will be ready for you. Oil is changed every 50,000 with grease and filters at 25,000 and we run Amzoil in everything. Our shop really is pretty efficient and easy to work with.
I try to run 2500-3000 miles per week which isn't much of a problem. My dispatcher never bothers me and I just do my thing. Biggest thing is communication, ETA's Etc. Do what you suppose to do and they leave you alone. They do try to preplan, so if you do what you are suppose to do and be where you are suppose to be, they will keep you running with minimal down time.
They will issue what truck is available at the time of course, but if you prefer a Kenworth or Volvo they will try to accommodate you. They will also have the truck detailed and you can get a new mattress from the shop.
