We have a driver who lost a leg over in Iraq. You would not know it by the way he gets around. Climbs trailer ladders, gets in and out of the truck with no help and does not use handicapped spaces. Even his pickup truck has no tag or sticker.

My best friend got his parking pass before he died of Pancreatic Cancer , restaurant owner gave him some static over parking in a handicap spot , I bet he felt 2 inches tall when he read Calvin's obituary.

I team with my husband. I have a handicap placard. Don't use it, except on days my bones feel like they are breaking. If you look at me you wouldn't think it belongs to me. (Not overweight, or out of shape) I have rheumatoid arthritis and Ankylosing spondylitis.

My husband is overweight & other drivers assume it belongs to him and are shock when they find out it's mine.

We have two fat guys at work that have handicap placards on their personal vehicles and still drive. Neither seems handicapped besides being overweight. And one is a tough guy. lol

I think the question is how does someone in a wheelchair pass the DOT physical ?

how does someone who can’t climb into the cab pass ?

I thought that climbing was a requirement ?

Allow me to add to your questions:
How are they performing propper inspections?
To the overweight people: how do they get between the axles to check for slack adjusters?
If I was an examiner, those people wouldn't pass a CDL test.

Our car has a handicapped license plate and we have a placard to hang on the mirror in the other car. We have them because of problems my wife has. When she isn't in pain, she won't park in a handicapped place as she doesn't want to deprive someone that needs one of a spot. I prefer to park farther away anyway.
As far a the placard goes, the paperwork for both the plate and the placard state that they are for cars and light trucks only. Being curious, I asked when we got them if they would be legal to use in a big truck and was told no. They said though the placard itself looked the same, they accompanying paperwork is different. I doubt if any LEOs ever check truckers parked in a spot at a truckstop.

You can have a twisted ankle, or something else. It doesn't efect your driving, it makes walking difficult. As others have said. There are some disabled vets driving trucks, good for them.
