Yeah I know..... I complained about it last time I was there and they did it.......
Just stating that there isn't a rule saying it has to be.......which sucks.....

When I used to haul drums I would use one inch ratchet straps around sets of four drums... It was easier for though because I usually only had a couple of pallets of the stuff at any given time, and if I had more it would be properly banded and shrink wrapped.

I hauled some that weren't banded. I wrapped a two inch portable around them.

Edit: chaoss beat me to it.

That's probably better than a pair of one inch straps, which generally aren't terribly strong. The problem is that depending on the density of the fluid in the drums, you could have 24 pallets, and most of us don't carry enough one or two inch straps for all of them.

I would prefer to wrap around them...I hauled a machine and done the same thing on a machine with a few drums of oil that came with it.....

Nails work just as good on home made v boards. I used 4 on each peice. 2 straps on 2 boards got 16 nails total.

If you use nails find the little ones with tiny teeth that stop the nails from backing out easily.

I used to use roofing nails for v boards when I worked at a roofing company. Worked pretty well but they did tend to work their way out eventually. Keep in mind that the v boards were being used on each and every load, up to three times a day. Personally I'd prefer short screws but that's a lot more work for v boards that won't get used much.
