Unless you're talking manhattan,it's no different than any other big city. Manhattan you'll have more kamikaze taxi's,buses and pedestrians. Yes people will step out in front of a moving truck.

Avoid parkways, many clearance signs are measured for snow weather, trip plan is a must if you're not from there are a lot of small roads and you don't want to get caught on a dead end in those small roads.
Oh and a lot of the drivers are dip ####s. Be really careful many of the taxis are fresh foreigners they drive like they did back in their country. -
