Well I decided to stop at the pilot at exit 105....lebanon something. I thought it would be nicer to have a toilet in the morning than to not have to start my clock right away.
Also, since I do not deliver until 8, I would not end up using all of my 11 or 14 tomorrow because I am not going to run that late into the night.
There is another Mav here with the same load...untarped of course....lol...but the other advantage of having it tarped is I think I would get better fuel mileage.

At least you're delivering in the morning. I drove 600 miles Saturday after loading at 1300 for a 1700 delivery appointment Monday. The good news is I barely squeeze in a 34. The bad news. I start the week losing a full day of driving right off the bat.

These 16-18 hour days are getting old real fast. My effective hourly rate is between $10-11/hr. That's a huge difference from the $31/hr I made at a career high and the average over $20/hr for the last ten years, but it all still falls into a higher plan so I tolerate it for now.

The sleep at the consignee and don't start your clock until ready to leave is something I'm done with. I don't "protect" my 70. I protect my hind side from lawsuits and fines instead. I run close to running out of hours and probably will run out more often than not, but it's better than getting into an accident on Saturday and having my books scrutinized and a jury deciding that I was effectively out of hours even though my log showed I had 20 more hours I could drive.

I also started a list of times that stops fill up in the evening. Some places fill up by 5 and others much later or not at all. Something ETAP and the CSRs never take into account. BTW, never stop on the east side of Joplin for the night. The west side has better food and better parking. Just my Cap'n Obvious two cents worth, but I thought I'd put it out there anyway just 'cause I like to hear myself talk (¿read myself type?).

I read this on my telephone but wanted to wait until i got to where I could use my keyboard.
My starting my clock after I get unloaded was not in any way going to put me in any sort of jeapordy with the law. I would have just taken my 34 hr restart, driven for 5 hrs, parked for well over 10. My logs would have then shown that I did a pretrip and then a 30 minute unload. I would have then been off to my next stop.
I ended up stopping at the pilot about 16 miles short of there. I am glad I did once I saw the place.

I would recommend that you not figure out what you are making an hour. It will only drive you crazy! If you could make the money that you used to make, you would be doing it, just like I would. But I can't and that is the present reality. Trucking at least flatbedding is a 14 to 16 hr day. Work, eat, sleep and so on.
I look at it as I am able to provide for my family and this is how I do it.
This is unlike most other professions out there. It is a lifestyle and not a job.

I agree with you that the CSR's do not take all things into consideration when they send us out on these loads. We just have to do what we need to do to be safe and have a safe haven to park. If it means we get them to rescedule the appointment, then that is what we need to do.
They tell us where to go, but we make the final decision when and where this truck moves safely!

Hopefully things will move a bit more smoothly!

Made my delivery at Alabama Wire products and then got a load right away to pick up at arvin rollcoater in Hawesville. I was just there last week.
I picked up 4 skidded coils going to Amana in Amana IA.
I stopped about 150 miles from there as I was not sure what rest areas would be open and I was getting hungry!
Hope you all have a good evening!

Sitting here on the Little Rock yard with the truck in the shop. I hope they hurry up & fix it. Gotta be in Conroe, TX tomorrow between 0900 & 1500. Quite doable, but I want to know if they can fix it quick so I won't lose my load.

    JimTheHut Thanks this.

Pretty standard for marseille. Logistical nightmare there. At least you can sleep there.
