Fortunately I had plenty of time. I picked up at the port in Delaware. I am.still going to deliver a day early. I. ould actually see the city this time. Just too many people cutting in and out in front of you. I am just glad I do not go up there more often...LOL

After being in the shadows over the past few weeks, I can now say I'm heading to NLR this weekend. Extraordinary information on this thread. Can't say I'll be surprised by what waits ahead of me in training. Really looked hard at 3 co's. before deciding on Maverick. Very excited to start a new career.

I drive into the city twice a week or on the island my company gives us $42.50 extra to cross the bridges

Timing is everything going into and out of NY. 3 or 4 stop loads are the trickiest. By the time you work your way to Long Island and have to head back out is when you hit the traffic of people in Long Island heading into the city. Remember your clock is ticking no matter what and there is really no parking except on the other side of the bridge out of NY City.
The construction and rough roads around the bridges is horrible. Side streets in the Bronx, Queens and Brooklyn are very narrow not to forget one way. Cars don't care if 2 trucks are side by side on opposite sides of street they are going to try and fit no matter how tight the space. Remember the box trucks are every where up there and also deliver early morning. We had 6 unloading with us on the same block but different places. Made it very interesting.
I-278, I-295, I-495 etc. in NY are good roads. NEVER EVER get on a Parkway in NY!
We have found that ALL of our consignees have been very nice up there. Although sometimes we wished we had an interpreter to help us understand each other.
Just like anything once you do it the 1st time you get better at it each time after that (hopefully) -
well had a good week. Picked up Monday out of Gary Indiana going to ball down in Springdale Arkansas. Grabbed a air-conditioner out of Fort Smith going to downtown Philadelphia. I figured that what was going to be interesting. It wasn't too bad at all I even impressed myself backing down the alley. Got out of there alive went over to Combesville Pennsylvania and picked up some steel plates going to Chicago for Monday. Made it home Saturday at noon will leave early Monday.
Have a great weekend, drive safe and enjoy the ride.
