Heavy hauling with my 12-speed 455 horsepower Volvo 780

    I want to get into heavy hauling slowly I have a 40 ton RGN trailer and I want to know what kind of weight I can pull to work my way up in the heavy hauling game I know eventually upgrade my truck would love some good suggestions

    5 axle, depends on your steers, rears, & what the states allow.
    Regular freight truck, probably 52-53k gross on tractor
    45k-46k on trailer tandem for 96k-99k gross
    Few states will let you permit 50k on one of the tandems so a little more on the wagon in those jurisdictions..

    If ya got a pin on 3rd for the wagon so 6 axle
    112k-113k gross most states, more in some states..

    On 5 figure 92,000. Maybe a little more depending on steer weight.
    On 6 figure 112,000.
    Minus your empty weight = how much you can scale, but it can be difficult to get max weight depending on piece, unless you can drive it the only adjustment you can make is sliding 5th wheel.
    Many states require you to tag for max weight to get a overweight permit.

    Seems that volvos around here are generally lighter spec retired fleet trucks. I know nothing about your particular truck but I typically run 44k or more on my drives and at least 15k on the steer if I am heavy around 110k gross.
    I know this is probably not really useful to you but can your truck safely hold that much?
    I don’t know how heavy your planning to go but if you have a light spec truck the lifespan of components will suffer. Hp won’t really be a problem but high rear end ratios kill driveline components in the heavy haul world not to mention getting off road will be less than ideal (I assume you have something lower than 3)
    I am not saying it won’t work as I know guys who have kept some pretty light spec stuff together but it takes a little though.
