I'm looking into getting started driving. I am currently in line to go with Roehl. (I've done my own research on different companies). Yea yea, I know I'm going to hear crap about them but that's my decision and I'm aware of the good, bad and ugly (quite possibly very fugly too). I'm going to have lots of questions.
I am going to be 45 this year and have been wanting to get into driving for a long time. I finally made up my mind that this is the year for it. Besides trying to talk me out of going the route I am going (which I know plenty are going to try), what advice can y'all give me on everything. I am talking advice on what to ask potential companies I may look into I. The future all the way to essentials to take on runs. I'm coming here for help drivers, not to hear anyone dog on me for my decision.

Roehl is actually not a bad place to start.
You might "up your game" there....if you could get on with their conestoga fleet.

I love flatbedding.
As far as essentials, carry enough warm clothes to stay warm in a broken down truck wherever you might find yourself. It could be a matter of life and death.
Enough non perishable food items for several days, for the same reason.
Mind your manners, dress presentably, (no flip flops, sweat pants, raggedy tee shirts, for God’s sake). You are a professional. Dress, present yourself like one, and act like one.
I’m sure others will add to this list.Ruthless, nextgentrucker, Speedy356 and 3 others Thank this. -
I'm a big fan of refrigerated trucking. Roehl has that also.

I started trucking with Roehl 12 years ago and I enjoyed it. Got myself a year of good experience then moved on to local stuff.
It may seem like they have some silly policies (every company does), just play along and you'll be fine. Good luck!Chinatown, OLDSKOOLERnWV and Flat Earth Trucker Thank this. -
Based on the experiences of others here on this Forum -- it would definitely be best....if you could go to Roehl -- with a CDL already in hand.
That way -- your business relationship with Roehl is more of a level playing field.
