Hey, did you ever get your issue resolved? We also have a 2012 D13 Volvo bought 6 months ago and are having identical problems. Was it the injectors.cups or something different? We have replaced about 8 sensors, both fuel filters and few other small things on the EGR and turbo, mostly sensors that the computer comes up with and still have engine derate in 7th and 8th gear under load, shaking and loss of power. We are $2,500 into this and are running out of time, money and options!!! PLEASE HELP!

I had a 2009 ishift at my rookie months. Same problems, shaking which goes away after letting of the gas, climbed i17 AZ at 20mph or less. 2 bad injectors. The boss was greedy, took him ..while to replace and problem gone.

Well, just a follow up to anyone who has read this post. I originally had the problem diagnosed @ a Volvo dealer. "Injectors", pure & simple. They said VOLVO TRUCKS around this year, were famous for injector problems. Though I only had "one bad one". They @ Volvo were advised to CHANGE THEM ALL OUT, because the others would or could eventually fail. They REALLY had to CONVINCE the cheap ### warantee company (didn't want to pay it), but finally did.
Since then (6 mos. later), I've had water in my tank (fuel cap left off-oops) and after a few fuel filters changed & a tow... They diagnosed the "NEW" problem as injectors again. They were under warantee, so "NO CHARGE" to me for new set!!!
About that same time, I'm still seeing black particals in my fuel filter. Having to change it regulaly. At first I thought it to be the fuel. But after research, found it to be 'algae' from the bio fuel mix. They have stuff that you can buy (don't remember the name), that will clean it out... BEWARE of how you use this stuff, I think I got heavy handed & possibly another reason for an unexpected trip to the shop. I think it cleaned out too much too fast & plugged up something in the system!!!
Now after TWO SETS OF INJECTOR REPLACEMENTS in under 12 mos. I will be paying close attention to the full chain of fuel to motor, to filter maintenance requirements! LoL.
PS; to all you 'experienced maintenance & knowledgable' fellows. I thank you all for your helpful comments & added notes to this post. Again, I am a new truck owner, now about a year and trying to get past this giant hic up... I appreciate all yalls help.

If the truck was governed, it will have rev limits set that describe your problem. You have to remove the MPH governor and the rev limiter or you will have loss of power when the engine hits the Volvo sweet spot. It is fixed with an ECM change and it takes 10 minutes and should not cost more than $50- if your mechanic is cool.

Volvo will try to sell you a new engine and everything short of the quick fix, so beware.

2012 and earlier D13's will have injector cup issues that manifest in hard starts because air is getting in the fuel line. You can double check it by removing the return line on a tank and placing it in a clear container. If it bubbles, you have a failure in at least one cup.

Replacement parts (6 pack) should not be more than $2700 or so. Labor is about 10 hours by the Volvo book. Dealerships will mark up parts so negotiate.

Note: When my cups failed, I had zero loss of power when driving the truck.

Leaking Cups ...and usually they damage injectors from soot contaminated combustion gasses that enter the fuel supply in the head. (Black fuel filters)

Increased loads usually exacerbate the air leak problem into the cup interior. (Higher gears, heavy loads, winds, pulls, etc)

I know this is an old post but did you ever find out what the shaking was? Read on another blog it's the u-joints. WE've done all the above everyone mentioned in response. U-joints don't come up in computer tests and are between the drive lines. Also know matter what truck you get, they all need work. Some more than others.

What to do if it won't shift at 1500 like mine? If I don't shift at 1600 it struggles to go and almost stalls
