    Howdy,

I am starting CDL school in Janurary 08 and am trying to narrow down my choices for a good carrier to work for as a new driver.

So far I am pre approved by Werner and Covenant.

My MVR has 2 speeds at 18 MPH over in last 3 yrs. and 1 improper left turn.

Schneider, Crete, and Star say NO to that.

    Any suggestions?

US Xpress, KLLM, Heartland, FFE, S. Cal, PAM, Celadon, CRST??, (and the list goes on and on and on.)

I have 4 kids, but an awesome self sufficient wife, however home time is a plus, but so is the $, right?

I need an honest carrier that will train me correctly and treat me respetfully, as I will do for them.

    PLEASE,ANY HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!

    God bless...

The improper turn is no big deal, but the 2 speeds 18mph over is. Anything over 15mph is considered a major violation and you have 2 in 3 years. With that on your record you may have to go with whoever will take you. Call and talk to recruiters, they can tell you if the co. will take you or check their websites. Good luck, you'll need it.

If KLLM will take you, I'd suggest them. However, as previously stated, with your record you might not be able to be very selective. If that's the case, I'd just grin and bear it until your record cleans up.

I agree 2 citations at 18+ MPH over you will be luck to get picked up by anyone.

You know what they say, "It is not a crime until you are caught!"

Thank you for the reply and suggestions.

I am pre approved with Werner & Covenant, and from what US Xpress and KLLM's websites read I am OK there also.

Do you think I should just go for it with Werner or give Covenant a try?

I have read horrible posts regarding both (Werner & Covenant) on this site, but I have to think just like any job, it's all in what you make of it, right?

Can a new driver survive a year with either Werner or Covenant?

    Any thoughts are appreciated!

    Thank you all again.

Of course you can survive. If you fall under the minimum requirements of KLLM, I'd see if you can't get prehired there first. If not, then I'd choose Covenant over Werner. That's only because I don't like paperless logs and I've known people who went to Werner and weren't happy at all.

Check out Interstate. I am so glad that I decided to go with them. Almost went with CRST. Here is their policy on accidents:

No more than four moving violations in the past four years; no more than two in the past twelve months.

    Thanks for the info.

I am in GA, so their recruiting office is not open yet (West Coast).

Their website indicates you need experience to go with them.

Is this true? As I am a new driver.

Thanks again very much for your help...

Hey TD, I used to drive for Covenant, if you do a forum search you will find a lot posted here about them (and almost all of it is true, the good and bad).

My advice is if you do go with Covenant (or Werner) stay there at least 2 years, before looking elsewhere; that will increase your employability and help your tickets get older. I drove for Covenant for 13 months, but looking back I should have stayed there the extra year, just because then I could have looked at better companies than the one I moved to (after Covenant). So good luck, and be patient, trust me, you will need it!

[BTW I posted this in another thread too, so you may run into it there]
