My truck is going through a restore this winter. I’m sand blasting the frame , I had to cut all the Huck bolts off and removed the fifth wheel. Has anyone replaced these with grade 8 bolts instead of going back with the huck bolt? Replacing with huck bolts is big bucks and requires going to a frame shop that has the fancy tool they use. Can I go back with 5/8 th grade 8 flange bolts with shoulder nuts?
The picture below is not my project but those are similar to the huck bolts I want to replace

Yes. Absolutely fine. Take some time and look at some trucks. You will be amazed at the number and size of the bolts on some trucks.

+1, regular frame bolts(grade 8) are fine.

Grade 8 is fine, the reason huck bolts are used for that application is to eliminate the chance of the bolts ever coming loose or the need to inspect and re-tighten them from time to time.

I like grade 8 flange bolts.
