Yes this is how trucking works. Someone with zero experience in a truck making up rules.

Truth is, it's basic economics of supply and demand. If HOS becomes more strict and we can work less hours, rates will go up because the demand stays the same, but the supply of driver hours goes down. If we were all limited to a 40 hour work week tomorrow, it may take a few months for the rates to catch up, but, we would end up maing the same we do now for a lot less work. We might even make more, because tons of drivers would quit if we could only work 40, thus making the supply even lower. Rates arnt controlled by what we want to make, they are controlled by what people are willing to do the work for. If enough people can do it cheap, rates drop. If there is tons of freight and thus not much competition for the supplier (drivers), shippers will pay anything just to get their freight on a truck over the other guys freight.

Now i dont like the 30 min break because i like to take multiple 15 instead of one 30, but, if it causes drivers to quit, then i make more money.

No, the MEDIA said he hadn't slept in 24 hours. He's been quite vocal about that not being the case.

This. Except that it's the old-timers that refuse to change that make regulation necessary, because for some reason they don't value anyone else's life, especially over their own profit.

There is no rule stating the break has to be a 30 minute maximum. If you want to take an hour break go right ahead.

Good news, 30mins is the minimum and there's no time limit, take as much as you need to be "happy"!

Their tune changes once they get the exp and and can handle driving 300 miles or better without even one stop. Then they'll think some of the rules we have are ridiculous.

Can we agree 90++% of accidents are due to human error and not a lack of rules or regulations? If so, what is it with humans who think they can legislate/regulate all human behavior/education levels/personality types and create perfect environments? Usually based on one or few incidents, like this "news worthy" accident, they create new rules with little or no regard to the new problems it creates...But then, they live for that, they'll get to create more solutions to the 'more' problems they created...

It makes headlines, but is it in any way the real problem on the roads?...I think we can all agree it's not so most knee jerk reactions, "we need to do something"(feel good stuff) responses probably won't make the roads any safer...

/rant/ Their new rules are constantly saying, "YOU'RE TOO STUPID TO DO WHAT'S BEST FOR YOU, AND EVEN THOUGH WE DON'T KNOW YOU FROM ADAM AND HAVE NEVER SPENT 5 SECONDS IN YOUR INDUSTRY, WE KNOW WHAT'S BEST FOR YOU", it's all BS...We already have laws to cover every type of recklessness and mayhem you can cause in a truck, from texting, sleeping, fatigue, speeding and every type of accident you can get into but they say "YOU'RE TOO DUMB, WE MUST TELL YOU HOW TO ACT FOR "PUBLIC" SAFETY", as if same wouldn't apply to cars proving again, it's all BS.../end rant/
