I'm 50, laid off and sick of sitting around waiting for a job to fall in my lap. I've always wanted to drive truck, probably like a lot of us older guys. Call it romance, call it bucket list, but don't call me crazy. I just want to get out on the road, work an honest day's wages and learn a new trade.

Lots a questions coming. Hope you can help me out.

    Bless this beautiful country!

    Cheers.

Chinatown, austinmike and Coffey Thank this.

There's a couple of decent private cdl schools in Las Vegas.
Either of these schools are good as long as the course you choose is 160 hrs. or longer.
    160 hrs. is sufficient though.

This one you can finance through the school and first payment isn't due until 45 days after graduation.
Some trucking companies reimburse the tuition back to you in monthly installments.

There's also some trucking companies that have their own cdl school and usually want you to sign a contract that you'll work for the company for 12 months. The course if free if you agree to the contract.

I got a grant for school. I'll be going to Southwest Truck Driving School. They seem nice. I just hope I can get enough drive time with them.

    Coffey Thanks this.

What type trucking do you want after graduation?
Do you want to run the roads or stay west?
We can give you some good job leads.

    Coffey Thanks this.

I'll give you a list of companies that probably hire from Southwest Truck Driving School.
You can apply for these companies online from the websites as early as the first day of school. Apply from your own computer.

Refrigerated trucking is recession proof because you're hauling food, medical supplies, etc.

Click on "Train" for new cdl school grads.
Short application is on opening page. Complete application is also on there. Either is ok to get started.
