I somewhat share that theory....if you put a bad driver on a long run, dispatch won't have to deal with them for several days, and in a weird way it surprisingly keeps drivers happy. I think the best drivers and the drivers that don't complain get placed on more time sensitive loads, short loads, or loads that are less popular. I personally think 800 or 900 mile loads that can come off the next day is how a driver can maximize pay. I know me personally, I couldn't care less where I go. Some times the short loads can be beneficial though, especially if you deliver same day.

Some years ago I was in our office witnessing a driver arguing with a dispatcher over some manner of trivial nonsense. The driver eventually left, and the dispatcher says “I’m sick of this ####. He gets 30 stops a day in Washington DC until he quits.”

In your world, the problem drivers get rewarded with gravy runs and thereby receive encouragement to continue being a problem. Sure, that makes perfect sense.

Does a gravy run mean a long haul? To me, not necessarily. I don't chase gravy runs, I chase gravy weeks. Big difference. A 2000 mile run isn't necessarily a gravy run if they give you 6 days to run it....and that does happen. So to me, long hauls can be a double edged sword. What I was trying to say was, they could give a bad driver that 2000 mile run that takes a week. The better driver is going to have shorter hauls, but not necessarily short hauls, but his check is going to look better on Friday. The runs don't tell the story about how good of a driver one is.....the check on Friday does, even in lean times.

It's a #### thing, I've beat drum about it at my current employer for almost 2 years to start firing the drivers who are constantly late, OOR, lazy, and the push back is always the same, especially if the driver has been with the company for a long time.

I fail to see why what other drivers are doing is any of your concern. Telling the company to fire drivers? Really? You need to do you amd only you. As long as your on time amd do things the right way, what does it matter what everyone else is doing?

One driver at my complained about picking trailers that either needed work or weren't washed out. The company said, "We can't discipline drivers for those things because it will impact hiring." Or something along those lines. I just feel like complaining is a waste of energy. If the trailer is dirty, sweep it out. If it needs washing out, get it washed out. If it needs work, get it fixed. Pain in the ###? Sure. Waste of time? Definitely. Its part of the game. Not everyone has good ethics, but that don't mean I gotta contribute to bad ethics.

I don't drive anymore so that would by why, and it was a response about problem drivers, not about good drivers.

The drivers leaving trailers in disrepair, dirty, etc, need to be terminated when they won't change their habits and continue to just leave it for the next guy, especially in an industry where most of that type of work goes uncompensated to the driver out side of Hourly rate jobs or a Wal-Mart.

Yes agreed crappy drivers should be fired. Time to hold people accountable or it shows up in your safer score in the form of accidents and failed inspections which lead to lost customers and less miles for the drivers doing things right.

It’s illegal. The law requires that everyone have a direct deposit option it’s not difficult to complain about this. You can contact your congressman talk to his aid and they’ll put you on the right path. You can stop this foolishness It’s like these companies that hold a week of your earnings… That is also illegal Much of this must be reported and a complaint filed and if they try to screw you around as a result of your complaint, you can sue them I have a friend that works for Holland and she loves it. I wonder why

Drivers have always been held responsible. Most Drivers don’t know how to complain to the DOT and other agencies that protect driver abuse It’s Simple call your Congressman aid talk to them first and they will help you straighten this company out As I said, many companies do illegal tactics such as holding a week of your paycheck, which is not legal… Forcing you to drive over your hours… Their abuse goes on and on

This was a common trade of many companies, such as Crete Carrier. But of course, if you inspect a trailer and find that it’s not Sea worthy… It takes time to take it into service to be repaired and you don’t get paid I work for a company once in which four out of five trailers There’s only me and one other driver that would take these trailers to service to be repaired… It’s easier just to quit and find the company where it was difficult discovering a trailer that didn’t need to be red tagged
