Apparently they can’t get that through their heads. There has been time when a slip up occurred and I wound up with a preplan that didn’t fit my recap hours. I always communicate about that usually I’ll pick it up and it’s swapped or delivery is re-scheduled, and the matter is settled.
I think some people come on board thinking a company is going to bend all their normal operations to their need. When I signed on here it was made clear that they expected drivers to be able to drive at night and run all of the “lower 48”. And I over hear things like “I’m not gonna run this state, don’t run this time of day” etc. I’ve had good runs interrupted because I’ve had to rescue a load now and then because of someone at the last minute didn’t want to run a state or at night.
I’m not a cheerleader for them but like I said they’ve been decent overall. But the newer generation of drivers out here in the whole industry leaves me skiing my head. I guess it’s because I grew up with my first jobs in an era of “do your job or get fired”. The work ethic in this country since the “covid” mess has notably declined.
Basically if I have a screwed up load my practice is to just get it done legally and safety and get it out of the way. That’s how I’ve done it for most of my career. I’ve only had a couple of companies that were supposedly “non forced” but even then there wasn’t any choice of loads. Sure there’s some states I hate going through and some cities are a pain to get in & out of but somehow I managed to get through the mess.

They do state it’s an average of 1500 miles or so. Which means a weeks pay might be one big long run or it might be a combination of 800 - 1000 milers. So far to me it’s been exactly what I was told it will be, even back when I was at the “blue side” before the split.BeHereNow97 and Lonesome Thank this.

I think it's true at most companies good drivers get punished with "####" loads because the company knows they will actually get it done. Be that a short run, terrible dock, crap appointment time, the company has to protect the service to the customer and in turn the driver gets the short end. Where as difficult or bad drivers are just assigned something to get them out of the way and not have to deal with them.bryan21384, hope not dumb twucker, Lonesome and 1 other person Thank this. -
And you need to drive a large car with the obligatory sun visor. Throw in those chrome extensions for the dash switches and you're king of the road.
"Blink, blink, flash, flash...I'm too lazy to reach for my dash."

Because theyre soft and can't handle being an actual professional driver.
Im paid to move that tractor trailer, anywhere any time and bump that dock / yard spot.
The new generation of truck drivers are not only extremely incompetent, but also soft af with no personal drive to become better.
At least from roehls program, they legitimately train new drivers to go around begging yard spotters or customer company trucks to back their trailer up for them, if theyre too scared to do it themselves.Anonymousproxy Thanks this. -
Because they don't understand how to be a pro, and it goes way past a look. You hear drivers talk about they only want "long runs that go west." They think long runs are the only way to make money. If it don't fit their visual, go to places where they like, etc, they become malcontents. I think some drivers really think it's some sort of vacation out here. I personally can't stand to hear drivers tell dispatch where they will or won't go.....for real though.....I just believe if they're paying you to do a job, you be a pro and get it done and be on time. Every time I hear a driver talk that noise, I'll always ask, "Who went to whom for a job?" It's an ego thing man. They get to talking to these cranky drivers and they tell newer drivers to stand up for themselves, and newer drivers take it the wrong way. In any event, the customers at the end of a 300 mile run deserve the same good service as the customers at the end of a 1300 mile run. The faster drivers understand that, the better the industry is.Gearjammin' Penguin and Lonesome Thank this.
