That’s the one big thing I loved there. Same places, same faces. It was always nice going in and hearing Hey Hotrod!! Good seeing you again!!

It has definitely been nice to see a lot of the same customers at both Indian River and Caledonia Haulers. Even when I worked at ATS I saw some of the same places from time to time.
IWX6279 and Knucklehead Thank this. -
There's a few old threads of EPU's and opti idles on this forum. I've only ever had diesel APU's.
For those who currently and used to work at Holland, how many hours before your SmartPark EPU starts and stops the engine during your break? Every 6 hours, every 10 hours? Does it depend on the truck's and batteries age? Is the beeping noise when the truck starts loud?
And did any of you have trouble adjusting to the start/stop of your truck with the beeping noise, where you weren't able to get quality sleep?
Those who don't work at Holland and have opti idles instead of the SmartPark EPU's feel free to chime in as well. Some of the old threads make it seem like it's hard to sleep with these opti idle type of systems:

Opti idle, does it keep you cool when trying to sleep?Last edited: Sep 6, 2025

I’ve used the park smart battery EPU
It’s okay but not as good as a diesel powered APU. I always had to keep the divider curtain closed In between cab & sleeper to keep the temperature comfortable while sleeping. It took me a while to get used to the loud beeping noise before the opti idle starts the engine, and the engine randomly starting is pretty dang frightening lolStringb8n, ThunderRolls and IWX6279 Thank this. -
I agree. It makes this job much more less stressful when you know where you’re going and the people there get to know you. That, and you learn what they expect and their processes for checking and in and out.bryan21384, Knucklehead, hotrod1653 and 1 other person Thank this.

Thank you for the information.ThunderRolls Thanks this.

Do you remember how many hours it would take for the truck to cut on and off during your 10 hour breaks?
And eventually you didn't wake up everytime the truck made the loud beeping noise and then shook when the engine started? You got used to it? Did it take a while? -
Not sure if you misunderstood the intent of my post, it wasn't to give information or my opinion. I was hoping to hear feedback from you guys who actually use (or used to use) the system on how often (how many hours) it would start and stop during your 10 hour break and if it affected the quality of your sleep/did you ever get used to it?IWX6279 Thanks this.

I really don’t remember the timing intervals In between the opti idle functions. I’m a heavy sleeper and it always woke me up, but we are all differentThunderRolls Thanks this.
