Hey guys. I am brand new here and brand new to what I am trying to do.
I owned a few trucks about 9 years ago and sold the company around two years later. I just hauled cars due to my towing company. I sold it all and have not really driven since.
My exwife still has a good bit of money but for me it is time to find my way again. I was looking at doing this for the rest of my life so I want to get a nice truck. I found an old body '86 Pete with an added sleeper with the works. That would make it really nice for the long hauls and months out.
So just a few questions if I may please.
If I want to buy this truck for say...$75k should I borrow a good bit more to pay for any costs? I want to have my own authority and find a good broker. Or should I look into just signing up with a company and driving my truck for them?...more on that later...back to the money questions...
How long would it take to start getting money flowing in for the runs? I am trying to figure out how much upkeep I should plan on and fuel to budget for. Not to mention paying the #### 8 million dollar a month payment!
Is it safe to say the average is around $1.40 per mile?
I have so many questions I can't type fast enough and I don't want you guys to throw me out just yet....
Any advice on anything is greatly appreciated.

You would pay that for a 23 year old truck your entire life depends on?
Seriously no disrespect intended - even though I know it will come off that way - but my head is swimming. On the one hand I see a wealth of well-written testimonials about how hard this business would be to be successful with, and then I'll read something that strikes me as a reminder that most of these ventures are by truckers... working with numbers difficult to fathom and manage. Honestly I can't tell if its a terrible environment in reality or like shooting fish in a barrel given the competition .
Don't take me too seriously though, I've not driven yet for a single day for a company and am a long ways off from trying anything on my own! -
I was thinking the same thing as PharmPhail as soon as read the amount you wish to purchase this truck. "You want to pay that much for a 22+ yr old truck?" If you keep researching, I am sure you will find a better deal of a newer truck for that price or less. Good Luck & Good Truck Hunting!

An 86 359 for $75,000??????????????????
I hope the seller is tossing in a '06 Great Dane spread axle reefer!!!
Seriously man, $75K for that Pete?? -
I think he is talking about the old pete or financing a newer one. At least I hope so.
I have an 86 pete and u better know how to work on them at that age.
I know of an 86 right now for 80k so that's not unheard of. Of case ever bolt on that trk is new -
Not to mention a big double eagle alone can
Run allot more then that -
I think he must be bored and wants to yank somebodys chain.

Guys...I gave no information on the truck really. There is only 12,000 miles on the complete drive train and tires. A $60,000 custom sleeper was added as well as track vision satellite and much MUCH more. I like the old long nose Pete myself.
I have seen newer ones like this and they are $150k and up.
I guess I should share more info. We are leaving and traveling together. We want to just leave for a while. The house is sold and we are ready to go. Just trying to figure out what is the best to do. I know one thing....she has to pee an awful lot...just having this truck with the toilet in it is worth all of the money!
I signed the papers on the truck. I picked up for a really good price and we are excited. Now the nerves are going nuts. I THINK we have enough money ready to pay about 90 days worth of running. Hopefully we don't screw it up too bad. -
That IS a really sharp looking truck!
A bank honestly agreed to finance it at that age though? Usually with regular cars they'll go 5-6 years on new and 3 years on something 5 years old or more...then they save you from yourself on things much older than that.
The toilet option is nice...I'm surprised they haven't found a way to make that more standard.
