I know this has to be redundant (someone must have asked before me). Can someone explain the 8-2 split, where it would be practical, how often it can be used, is it used with a 30 break, etc.? I stopped at a closed WS and asked a trooper there. The look he gave me made me want to run out and buy a grill guard! That wasnt pork, it was venison! Thanks in front!

If the shipper takes 5-6 hours to load, if you could make it to destination only by running 7.5 hours, just shut down for 8, dont do the 30 minute break, it’ll be in your 8 hr break, gain rest of unused hours make drop, do other 2 hr break at reciever.
    Note
8 hr has to be SB, other 2 can be either Sb or OD.. 8 has to be first

    Not true.

    Split Sleeper Simplified
    • 8 hours (must be in the sleeper) pauses your 14
    • 2 hours does not pause your 14
    • the two break periods (8 and 2) can be taken in any order
    • the two work periods on either side of either break, added together, cannot exceed your 11/14/70
    • When using the split-break you enter into a cycle of work | rest1 | work | rest2 | work | rest1 | work | rest2 | work, etc., until you return to a "normal" schedule by way of a 10-hour continuous rest or 34-hour reset.

Simply put, drive 7, R2, drive 4, R8, drive 7, R8, drive 4, R2, and so on till you hit 70. I like that better than 10(bored) and a 30(no time for anything). Now, how to get around an ELD that doesn't support that split?
