Is it faster to use the stare routes (59, etc) north out of Houston to get to I-30/40 or is it faster to go east on I-10 then go north out of lake Charles or Slidell?
This is a haz load but all the routes look ok.

I always used Hwy. 59 route.

Thanks. I am an east coaster and this is new territory for me. In eastern USA a US route can be really hit or miss. Guess in these open states they’re more akin to interstates.

59 is ok but I don't think it will save time over going on 10 to I 59 north.

Hwy 59 to Hwy 79 then get on I49 in Shreveport to I 30 is usually faster way as you avoid all the small towns north of I20.
Texas_hwy_287, Jwhis and kemosabi49 Thank this. -
I run I-10 to I-59, then 59/20 to 65. You're going to have to take 459 around Birmingham.
Texas_hwy_287 and Jwhis Thank this. -
Taking 59 won't be faster but will offer more parking options in case you're out of hours. Lots of small town truck stops.
Texas_hwy_287, Jwhis and tscottme Thank this.
